Gerrard's Lookout, nestled along the scenic Sunshine Coast Hinterland in Queensland, Australia, offers an enchanting experience for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike. This lookout provides a stunning vantage point to observe the vast expanse of the coastline and the lush hinterland. Visitors are often treated to a dramatic display of nature, especially during thunderstorms. The sight of rolling clouds gathering over the ocean, slowly making their way towards the coast, is truly a spectacle. These moments, with the thunder rumbling in the distance and lightning illuminating the sky, create a mesmerizing and slightly thrilling atmosphere. The natural phenomenon provides an exceptional opportunity for photographers, both amateurs and professionals, to capture the raw beauty of nature in its most powerful form. The lookout is not just about storm watching; on clearer days, the panoramic views of the coast and the surrounding areas are breathtaking. The changing colors of the sky at sunrise and sunset offer excellent photo opportunities, with the landscape bathed in golden hues. Accessibility is another highlight of Gerrard's Lookout. It's easily reachable by a short drive from nearby towns, making it a convenient spot for a quick escape into nature. The facilities, including ample parking and picnic areas, add to the comfort of the visit. In summary, Gerrard's Lookout is a gem on the Sunshine Coast, offering a unique blend of serene beauty and dramatic natural displays. It's a must-visit for anyone looking to capture the essence of Queensland's natural splendor.

Gerard’s Lookout is one of those hidden-gem stops along the Blackall Range tourist drive that you really shouldn’t miss. Perched high above the Sunshine Coast hinterland, it offers sweeping, uninterrupted views all the way out to the coastline, with lush valleys and rolling hills in between. On a clear day, you can see for miles – perfect for photography or just taking in the fresh mountain air. There’s a reasonably-sized parking area, making it easy to pull over straight off the road. It’s not a large attraction, so you won’t spend more than 15–20 minutes here unless you’re picnicking, but as a scenic stop, it’s excellent. The only reason I’ve given it four stars instead of five is that there’s limited shade and seating, so on hot days it can get warm quickly. If you’re exploring the hinterland between Maleny and Montville, Gerard’s Lookout is the perfect spot to pause, stretch your legs, and soak up one of the best views in the region. The land for the Lookout was donated by the Gerard family. That is where the name comes from.

Lovely view and location but totally spoiled by the offensive and aggressive attitude of the coffee vendor (Hinterland Coffee). When we stoped and asked if he had a second to make a last coffee he was extremely rude and gesticilated shoeing me away saying'Nah! Nah! All shot down! No!' When I said alright then I will make sure I don't come back here again. In response he called me a 'w@nker'. When my wife and I came back down from the lookout he chose to have another dig at me and said 'Go on, have a little cry now.' I have never been spoken to like this by a vendor in my life.. do yourself a favour and get a coffee from the lovely staff in Montville instead.
