Cronulla's beaches are amongst the most polluted in Sydney - Boat Harbour often the worst says the Sutherland Shire Environment Centre. This is due primarily to the presence of the Cronulla Sewage Treatment Plant which discharges effluent from a clifftop outlet at Potter Point. Vehicles are allowed to park at the southern end of Boat Harbour. Admission is $8 a day - paid to the National Parks and Wildlife Service as you enter Kamay Botany Bay National Park.

Boat Harbour Aquatic reserve covers quite a large area including the Merries reef to the south and extending north east to Potter Point. Toward Potter Point there's lots of marine life here including whales dolphins sharks and everything else. Its a great spot to visit and it can be accessed from the Northern end for no cost - bit of walking involved though

A great place to spend a weekend with your family including your pets! We found that boat harbour is a clean and safe environment to relax by the beach. The water is clear and calm on most days and the sand is easily accessed by most vehicles with decent ground clearance. Don't forget to take your rubbish with you!

I personally really like this place. One of the only beaches that you can drive on in Sydney. Taking your stuff with you and not having to cart it from the parking area. There is no shade and no toilet amenities so need to be prepared for both. The beach is not patrolled and the water can have rips in at times. However the waves are not huge and the water is clean making it great for young children There is a $30 Per car access fee to the beach but still makes for a cheap day out. Garbage bins are provided on the way out of the park. So make sure your rubbish is taken with you. It is becoming a very popular place and can be extremely busy. The only negative that I see is people not obeying the park rules and spoling it for others. There is a 10km/ph speed limit on the beach. Set in place as a safety rule as there are children and dogs around and some people don't want to adhere to this rule. The park staff are very good at policing this and patrol the beach frequently. If you have not been before and own a 4WD it is a must go place in Sydney. Oh they tell me the fishing is...

About 21 km south of Sydney’s CBD, inside Kamay Botany Bay National Park at Kurnell.

Access via a 4WD-only track (Boat Harbour 4WD Park off Captain Cook Drive) or by foot from Sir Joseph Banks Drive entrance. A day permit (around AUD 8–30) is required upon entry to the park .

Vehicles with decent clearance recommended; standard cars may struggle on soft sand tracks .

🌊 Nature & Marine Life

The reserve protects ~70 hectares of intertidal reefs, rock platforms, sandy seabed, and Merries Reef ecosystem .

Home to over 230 marine species, including weedy seadragons, Port Jackson sharks, abalone, lobster, and diverse reef communities .

Birdlife also thrives here: look out for oystercatchers and migratory waders on the shoreline .

🐠 Activities & Experiences

Ideal for snorkeling, scuba diving, rock pooling, kayaking, shore fishing, and spot spearfishing when permitted .

Visitors report sightings of dolphins, whales, and even sharks near Potter Point .

Guided walks along the Botany Bay coastline start here, with scenic trails toward Greenhills Beach...
