Conveniently located just 15 minutes from Sydney CBD and 10 minutes from Sydney’s Kingsford Smith airport. The Lakes Golf Club is strategically positioned within the Botany Water Reserve. Hosting major events like the 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2018 and this years 2023 overall 8 Men's Australian Opens, this private club provides golfers with the opportunity to experience one of Australia's most famous layouts. The back nine is one of the best in the world featuring 3 par 5’s with water hazards everywhere. 4 par 4’s and 2 par 3’s which require the average golfer to hit a hybrid or more. Corporate events are welcome on Mondays and Thursdays. The food is outstanding for a golf club and can rival most restaurants. There are specials on the menu every week and they are always a good option. I would suggest a round with a member as local knowledge makes the world of difference because when the wind gets up you may need 2 or 3 more or less clubs on anyone shot. Read morePlayed at The Lakes Golf Club recently and had a mixed but overall enjoyable experience. The clubhouse is definitely a highlight – elegant, modern, clean, and exudes a premium atmosphere. The dining options were excellent with a good variety of food that was both tasty and well-presented.
The practice facilities were decent – the putting green was in great condition and well laid out, though the driving range was a bit underwhelming for a course of this caliber.
As for the course itself, it wasn’t quite as impressive as expected. Some fairways, especially holes 2 to 5, felt cramped and lacked the visual appeal you’d expect from a championship course. Fairways were often too close together, and there were areas where no proper pathway existed between holes, which gave a slightly disorganized feel. Green sizes varied significantly, and while playable, the overall maintenance of the course was just average.
Still, it’s a course with potential and worth a visit – especially for the off-course experience – but there’s definitely room for improvement on the course...
