Whalan reserve is an awesome place, It has an amazing history too.. It was once known as the Mt Druitt Aerodrome and in 1942 was commissioned by RAAF and was utilised as a bomb dump after WW2 by the United States Air force. In 1951 it was returned to it owners. After the war the fledgling Australian Racing Drivers Club ran races there (1951-53) at the Mt Druitt race track which incorporated part of the runway and taxi ways. But a argument between owners occurred over the land and a bid to host the Australian F1 championship round, the dispute ended any chance of a successful bid and the racetrack, when one of the owners in a fit of rage tore several huge 2 metre deep trenches in the track... Unfortunately now it is also used as a dumping ground for litterbugs and illegal dumpers... It's a shame some humans are just filthy pests....

Excellent! There's something for everyone here. An awesome cricket oval, a flying fox for the kids, amenities blocks, and a remote control car racing track with an elevated control tower. Also, there are lots of shady spots under large sheoak trees to rest a while.

This is a really good facility. There are great pathways for running and walking. Council could be a little more attentive o trimming the bushland edges and fixing the asphalt on the old go cart track but they maintain the facility itself quite well. There are toilet facilities and plenty of leisure space and parking. There is a remote controlled car track, bmx track and other facilities. It is home to Whalan parkrun on Saturday mornings at 8am. It is quite a quick course. Around once a month the rocket club meets in the middle of the old go cart track and launches gas and water...

Love it here for a multitude of reasons but for mostly the police and their public relations. Is a true credit to the cops and their exceptional abilities and priorities. It was a wild place not too long ago, however a few million here and there for infrastructure, instalment and bush regeneration has created a great meeting place for all to gather and enjoy the day. Multicultural hub of Sydney and no discrimination is the way I...
