Yarramundi Reserve is a tranquil outdoor area located near the confluence of the Grose and Hawkesbury rivers, just a short drive from Sydney. Known for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities, it's a popular destination for both locals and visitors looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

One of the standout features of the reserve is its accessibility to the river, making it an ideal spot for activities like fishing, kayaking, and swimming. The area is also a hit among families, thanks to its well-maintained picnic spots equipped with BBQ facilities and ample space for children to run around.

For those interested in flora and fauna, Yarramundi Reserve offers a range of native plants and is a habitat for various bird species, making it a good location for bird-watching. Walking trails are available for those looking to explore the area further, although they're not as extensive as those found in larger parks.

However, it's worth noting that the reserve can get quite busy on weekends and public holidays, so if you're looking for solitude, it's best to visit during the weekdays. Amenities like restrooms are available, but they are limited, so plan accordingly.

Parking is generally ample but can fill up quickly during peak times, so arriving early is advisable. The area is also susceptible to flooding, especially during heavy rains, so it's crucial to check weather conditions before planning your trip.

Overall, Yarramundi Reserve offers a peaceful and family-friendly environment for a variety of outdoor activities, making it a worthwhile day trip for those looking to experience nature...

If you live in the west (Blacktown to Penrith area) and looking for a good spot to cool down with the kids on a hot day and don't want to drive far...this is the spot to come. There are two entries. One on the left called Southern entrance which is good for fishing and kyaking. Entrance to the right is what you are looking for. If you cross the water there is plenty of sandy area to set yourself up for the day. Great to take the family and your dog as it is dog friendly area. Not too deep, best if low tied for the smaller kids as they can stand and you don't need to worry. Bring your boogie boards, inflatables and pop-up sun shade, if no sun shade or umbrella set yourself under the trees. Though lots of people are there, there is still a lot of area to set up, even just walking little bit further down the river and setting your belongings on the river bank. Water is clear not murky. Pack your drinks and food and you are set. Will definitely come again....

This reserve marks the confluence of two rivers, The Grose and the Nepean; together they form the Hawkesbury River. The Grose is shallow and slow flowing so in the summer the water is quite warm. Underfoot most of the area is either deep sand or largish river stones, neither of which make for easy walking. The appeal is more apparent than real. On the matter of dogs, yes you can take your dog and give her/him a run but just be warned. Not all dog walkers are very responsible. I have a small female Schnoodle and I think more of her than to take her there any more. For example, I have turned up mid week early do be faced with a pack of about seven dogs, two owners, running riot. There are also those who seem to think their bravado is reflected by the threatening dogs they own and cannot control. But if you don’t want to take a dog but just like to have a paddle in a safe waterway this might be...

Exploring the Hawkesbury Riverside area on a sunny Saturday, I discovered the hidden gem of Yarramundi Reserve. This tranquil spot offers the perfect setting for walks and relaxation. The slow-moving water makes it especially ideal for young children to splash and play safely. During my visit, I watched families with their dogs frolicking in the shallow water, creating a cheerful atmosphere. The reserve features walkable riverbanks and dry areas along the waterway, perfect for strolling. The scenic beauty of the location creates a peaceful, calming environment that's wonderful for family picnics. While the extremely shallow water isn't suitable for swimming or water sports, it provides a serene backdrop for a relaxing day out. The reserve truly captures the natural beauty of the Hawkesbury region.

1789 White fella arrives here at the confluence of the Nepean (flowing North) and Grose (flowing Eastwards) Rivers. Us Mob, BOOROOBERONGAL Clan, "climbers if the trees" because when it Floods, up that tall tree. Us Mob in April 1791, showed you White Fella how bolt up the tree by means of toeholds or notches or stumps of fallen branches. Some of these toeholds were natural (fallen limbs) and some carved with the Riverstone Rocks. The combined rivers then are called the mighty "HAWKESBURY RIVER" which flows to the Pacific Ocean near Gosford, via Wisemans Ferry (actually two ferries).
