Yarramundi Reserve is a tranquil outdoor area located near the confluence of the Grose and Hawkesbury rivers, just a short drive from Sydney. Known for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities, it's a popular destination for both locals and visitors looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
One of the standout features of the reserve is its accessibility to the river, making it an ideal spot for activities like fishing, kayaking, and swimming. The area is also a hit among families, thanks to its well-maintained picnic spots equipped with BBQ facilities and ample space for children to run around.
For those interested in flora and fauna, Yarramundi Reserve offers a range of native plants and is a habitat for various bird species, making it a good location for bird-watching. Walking trails are available for those looking to explore the area further, although they're not as extensive as those found in larger parks.
However, it's worth noting that the reserve can get quite busy on weekends and public holidays, so if you're looking for solitude, it's best to visit during the weekdays. Amenities like restrooms are available, but they are limited, so plan accordingly.
Parking is generally ample but can fill up quickly during peak times, so arriving early is advisable. The area is also susceptible to flooding, especially during heavy rains, so it's crucial to check weather conditions before planning your trip.
Overall, Yarramundi Reserve offers a peaceful and family-friendly environment for a variety of outdoor activities, making it a worthwhile day trip for those looking to experience nature...
Read moreIf you live in the west (Blacktown to Penrith area) and looking for a good spot to cool down with the kids on a hot day and don't want to drive far...this is the spot to come. There are two entries. One on the left called Southern entrance which is good for fishing and kyaking. Entrance to the right is what you are looking for. If you cross the water there is plenty of sandy area to set yourself up for the day. Great to take the family and your dog as it is dog friendly area. Not too deep, best if low tied for the smaller kids as they can stand and you don't need to worry. Bring your boogie boards, inflatables and pop-up sun shade, if no sun shade or umbrella set yourself under the trees. Though lots of people are there, there is still a lot of area to set up, even just walking little bit further down the river and setting your belongings on the river bank. Water is clear not murky. Pack your drinks and food and you are set. Will definitely come again....

For example, I have turned up mid week early do be faced with a pack of about seven dogs, two owners, running riot. There are also those who seem to think their bravado is reflected by the threatening dogs they own and cannot control. But if you don’t want to take a dog but just like to have a paddle in a safe waterway this might be...
