Alum cliffs is one of the 60 great short walks of Tassie and being 800m one way it is reasonably short. However the first 200m is basically straight up which is a good workout. It is a fairly well maintained track, with a number of signs to explain the history of the local indigenous people as you walk along. It has a rest chair about 3/4 of the way before you head down hill to the lookout. We visited late in the afternoon in March. I also recommend doing this earlier in the day.
