Sweet Lord, those dunes had my soul leaving my body. It must have been the angels that carried me to the top. Steep, soft sand. Worth the climb (struggle) to the top - if nothing but the sense of achievement.

You can rent toboggans from the Big 4 reception in Strahan. But honestly, if you're a sucker parent like me, you'll be left carting the flipping things up Mt Sandmore as the kids starting crying "it's to haaaarrrrrdddddd" Yes. Yes it is.

If you're anything like Anakin Skywalker I suggest you stay away. Tis nothing but sun & sand so far as the eye can see.

Worth it though just to say...

Bring a boogie board or a toboggan! That very first dune you climb from the parking area is intense - take street stops by the trees! The top of that dune is mostly flat and then there are some steeper incline section of the dunes to slide down.

Parking is easy even for RVs and caravans.

There are picnic tables as well.

Just 15 minutes out of Strahan.

Must see natural attraction especially if...

My dad climbed up the dunes first by foot before everyone copied him. Best experience ever, dude running it was nice too. My sister and mum hated it and cried at the end so not for everyone. I thought it would be a fun short climb to the top and then down over to the beach to watch the sunset. I was really wrong. These dunes are huge and go on forever. You could easily spend several hours just playing and trying to remember your way back. Watched the sunset from the top of the first dune. Worth the stop.

Loads of fun. The Henty sand-dunes for a complete change of scenery. Exhausting fun walking / crawling up the 100-metre-high sand dunes (then stumbling back down). Still finding sand in places not to be mentioned.
