The Visitor Centre is a great hub for a series of lovely walks ranging from short strolls to full day treks. The centre itself has maps, a decent selection of clothing and gifts, and the attached restaurant does breakfast, lunch, ice cream, coffee etc. Hardcore walks end up here at the end of the Overland Trail from Cradle Mountain, but from the centre there are a series of small walks which you can link up into a beautiful 90 minute circuit of rainforest, rivers, beaches, tall trees, and, if you're fortunate, echidnas and platypus. The ferry from here will also take you to the far end of the lakes for a 5 hour walk back at the end of the Overland Trail, or, half way to Echo Point for a lovely 3-4 hour walk back along the lake.

This is a large and useful Visitor Centre on the southern shores of Lake St. Clair in the Cradle Mountain - Lake St. Clair National Park. Opening hours are 8.15am to 4.30pm daily. You will find exhibition gallery space, gift shop, useful park attendants for information about local hiking trails and to for purchase of ferry boat trips up Lake St. Clair. There is a large carpark, cafe, lodging, nice public toilets, showers as well for Overland Track hikers ending their multiple-day treks from Cradle Mountain, picnic area as well as numerous trailheads for short, half and full-day tracks that start at the Visitor Centre. It is a very useful place to make use of if planning to spend time at Lake St. Clair.

The Lake St Clair Visitor Centre is at the southern end of the Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park. It has hikes as do the other parks and of course the lake, however so do several other National Parks in Tasmania and personally I wasn't impressed with this section of the park. I much preferred both the Mt Field and Cradle Mountain National Parks. They both had great walks through much nicer landscapes. They both also had snow when we were there which was great, but did limit the walks we got to do in particular at Cradle Mountain. If you had to choose I would put this park down the list.

We made a stop at Lake St Clair on our way from Cradle Mountain to Mount Field, and we’re so glad we did! The lake itself is stunning, but what made the visit extra special was the wonderful ranger at the visitor centre. He took the time to chat with us and shared loads of fascinating information about the area.

The visitor centre is fantastic for kids—interactive, educational, and beautifully designed. The highlight for our little ones was receiving their National Parks Passports and stamping all the parks we’d visited across Tasmania. The ranger even pointed out the ones we hadn’t visited yet on a big map—such a fun and engaging activity for the kids!

A short but memorable stop that really enriched our trip—highly recommend it for families and nature...
