The Museum itself was good. Wish I could say the same for the man (clown) who collected our entrance fees. This was our 2nd visit (18/6/22 at 9.30 am) to the museum from about 3 years previously. We were travelling with friends this time and told them how good it was. We were greeted by a man who charged us more then we should have paid. He said he would do you a deal for 6 people so another couple tagged in with us. He stood in front of the sign saying the $7.50 per person which we couldn’t see. Should have been $45 or less for all 6 of us but he charged us $50. No one had change so we had to sort it between ourselves and one person paid the $50 cash to him. As we were leaving we noticed the sign with the price on it. I said to the man “that was a nice stitch up” charging us more than it was. He said “oh I must have made a mistake” which I personally didn’t believe. He offered the $5 sheepishly back, but we refused and left in disgust. What a shame, this incident had tarnished our happy thoughts of Tenterfield. I wondered how many times he has done this to a group of others. Since its cash with no receipt, who knows where the extra money goes, hopefully all to the right place. We hope the good volunteers who give up so much of there valuable time restoring and maintaining the museum do not suffer from this clown at the entrance. Good place and worth a visit but keep your Witt’s about you. We...
Read moreFor an important to preserve historical museum this railway museum is definitely worth a visit. It highlights many features & artefacts including a steam loco, diesel loco, carriages & wagons. There are model displays, tools, signal mechanisms, communication devices and self guided information. It could however do with a more interactive update and include some more features for children to explore and enjoy & perhaps even a show/presentation. It looks like it should have a heritage fund injected into its budget to provide a more immersive experience and educational insight. Nonetheless, it's worth a visit to re-live the memories of the power of the railways. There's a small...
Read more⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I loved it. A must-visit for history buffs and railway enthusiasts! The Tenterfield Railway Station is a beautifully preserved 19th-century railway precinct, offering a rare glimpse into Australia's transportation history. Opened in 1886, it played a crucial role in linking Sydney and Brisbane by rail in 1888. The museum, run by the Tenterfield Railway Station Preservation Society, showcases the station's rich heritage with care and dedication. Walking through the almost intact coaches feels like stepping back in time. A fascinating and educational experience for all ages! Huge props to the volunteers that support the restoration work on...
