I am giving the Thirlmere lakes 5 stars! I am also giving the human race 5 stars because if anyone can ruin something cool its the human race and if there was a competition on ruining things, the human race would be frontline winners! Sadly I don't think our species gets enough recognition for our ability to ruin something that has been in existence, quite happily for as long as Thirlmere lakes. Skills I tell you! The truth is that we have been destroying the Thirlmere lake system for years and despite recent rain, it is not the water ski park it used to be. Its not the parks fault and giving it 1 star because of what we have done to it will only give the politicians the idea that they can reverse its national park status and sell it off to their developer cousin they are having an affair, with for cheap. It sounds far fetched but if you are honest with yourself you know it will happen. So yeah. Rock on humans! and politician, you guys are even better. Corinkayaker for PM? No I am not interested, it would be like having a bath...

There's no doubting how special Thirlmere lakes are. Mankind has left his mark here, defiling it and abused it. But the lakes retain their truly overwhelming sense of nature and some of its finest work is afoot. Loads of bird life, insects and animals. One can only wonder what this was like before human infection. It's a day visit locality only. There are no rubbish bins here so take your pollution home with you. There are a few scattered toilets, Gas BBQs, picnic tables. There are no shelters here. Swimming is permitted, as is kayaking. As most Australian's are pyromaniac's I believe there are steep fines for burning in a national park. This a truly nice place just...

This is a rare gem tucked away in the Southern Highlands northern boundary. Only minutes from Picton and close by to the railway museum. Very few visitors on the autumn Sunday we went - cool and quiet and fresh. Plenty of seating and picnic spots by the water, and amenities too. Highly recommended to those who like the quiet outdoors - suitable for 2WD although beware of a few corrugations...

In Google, look for “werri berri picnic area”. Good, clean bbq area. Lake view is good. But playing in water is difficult. Good for kayaking, if you have the stuffs. Unpaved road is little rough. Overall, it’s a good place to have a break and have food on your trips.

1 BBQ area already hogged by a family. Otherwise nothing much to do, not even a seating area to enjoy the view. The road is unpaved and full of holes. There's a decent walking track there too.
