Access is via the road from Moa Lane. Don't rely on Google to get you there - you'll end up on the western side of the island staring up at the sheer face of the hill. The walk up there isn't too bad, with the steep inclines broken up with a couple of flat areas you can catch your breath on. All the local taxis know how to get you there if you're not up for a hike. The museum isn't open late afternoon, so if you want to see that and get more detailed history, plan to be there earlier in the day. Otherwise it's a beautiful spot for a late afternoon picnic with 360 degree views across the island and surrounding water and spectacular sunsets.

This is what visiting a place feels like before being overrun by tourist. There are no fenses, no separation between you and the old guns and breaktaking views except a half hour walk up hill. Taxi service in this tiny island town is insufficient at best. The hike is worth it. Do keep in mind to bring your own water as there are no facilities at the top.

Beautiful View of Thursday Island! What an amazing view! It is not a tourist lookout point, but a wonderful spectacle to see. A nice stiff walk up the hill to get almost 360° water views! The Fort was closed but we saw some amazing heritage from a long time ago and a few descriptive signs to help us along out journey.
