I had my wedding at Tocal Homestead in June. We were blessed with a beautiful day considering how much rain fell in the weeks before and after the wedding. The Wedding Co-ordinator, Aleisha, was a pleasure to work with and helped to manage multiple errors that arose from the alternate Wedding Co-ordinator company that we had hired. The food (inc. wedding cake) provided by Sprout Catering was top notch and received rave reviews from our guests. We had approx. 10 children in attendance and when Sprout realised that they did not have any stock of OJ, they swiftly resolved this by going out to get more. The location is beautiful and peaceful, providing stunning backdrops for our photos. I can only give 4 stars because I had a very specific idea in mind for my ceremony setup: I wanted the natural arch of the fig tree branches to frame my husband and I standing at the end of the aisle. The day before the wedding, I placed the plinths in the exact position to highlight this natural arch and the staff were to put the aisle runners down in front of them the next day. I also wanted the chairs in a curved sort of semi-circle to create a more intimate setting for the guests. Unfortunately both of these requests were not completed properly with the aisle runners placed on an angle in front of the plinths and the chairs on a slight angle rather than curved. I didn't notice on the day but since receiving our photos back it is obvious that the whole setup is on an angle with the natural arch behind us about 3m to the left. These errors have rendered all of our ceremony photos unusable. I feel bad complaining because the staff were absolutely wonderful, helpful and communicative. They were flexible and open to our ideas and willing to bring our vision to life. I definitely recommend having your wedding at this venue, however, if you have a specific idea in mind that maybe deviates from what they usually do, I suggest asking them to provide pictures beforehand so that changes can be made if it doesn't match what you are envisioning. Also, DO NOT book a wedding coordinator! This service is provided as part of Tocal Homestead's Wedding Packages. Thank you for a wonderful day Aleisha & Team! X

As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing moments in many beautiful locations — but Tocal Homestead truly stands out as something special. Steeped in rich heritage, this stunning venue offers an incredible blend of historic charm and modern amenities. The original 1845 homestead, designed by William Moir, and the iconic 1867 barn by Edmund Blacket, provide a timeless backdrop that elevates every frame. Every structure, tree, and pathway tells a story, making it an absolute dream for photographers. Despite its deep historical roots, Tocal Homestead is exceptionally well-maintained and equipped to handle modern weddings with ease. From the beautifully restored interiors to the spacious outdoor areas, it’s as functional as it is picturesque. The nearby Tocal College complex, also heritage-listed, adds even more depth and character to the surroundings. Whether you're after elegance, rustic charm, or something uniquely Australian, this place has it all. I highly recommend Tocal Homestead to any couple looking for a truly memorable venue — and to any photographer seeking a canvas rich with history and beauty. - Tumon AHSAN Photography

One of Hunter Valley’s best kept secrets. We stayed at the nearby barracks so didn’t have to pay entry. Usually entry is $10 for above 15 year olds which is great value. Great place to spend an hour and soak up some history and nostalgia. Staff is very friendly (like almost everyone in the Hunter!) and very knowledgeable about the local history. On the tour you get these cool audio devices where you input a number that corresponds to one of the many sights and it gives your a great audio description. Highlights for me were the vintage Rolls Royce and the amazing garden overlooking the creek.

My husband and I were married at Tocal Homestead on 6 April. It was truly the most incredible day, and it was honestly better than anything we had imagined it would be.

We fell in love with Tocal the first time we saw it over a year ago when we were invited for a viewing, and at that time we knew this was the perfect setting for us to start our forever. We wanted a wedding venue that was rustic and romantic, and the grounds at Tocal provided exactly what we were after - stunning in it’s natural beauty and very little decoration required.

We were lucky enough to have our wedding on a beautiful sunny day, and had our ceremony under the gorgeous fig tree in front of the Homestead. A tip for any brides looking at this beautiful venue for their special day - walk through the house to make your entrance if you get the chance. I almost didn’t do it, but I’m so glad I changed my mind. The photos of the moment myself and my bridal party walked out those grand doors are truly breathtaking!

We were lucky enough to explore most of the onsite grounds with our photographers, and it’s safe to say our photos look absolutely incredible. There isn’t a backdrop that wasn’t picture perfect.

Aleisha was amazing throughout the whole planning process, and responded so efficiently and politely to our million emails and last minute requests. On the day she helped to ensure that everything ran smoothly, and that we had a wonderful time. We can’t thank her enough for all of her efforts in pulling our day together.

The food by Sprout Catering was sensational, and what many of our guests described as the best wedding meal they had ever enjoyed. Our cake, also made by Sprout, was equally as delicious. All of our special requests were accommodated without question, and the catering staff were lovely and very attentive the whole night. To top it all off, the ceremony and reception set up was nothing short of perfection, and we could not be more thankful for the help of the onsite caretaker and catering staff for helping to make it happen.

We spent our wedding night onsite at The Barracks and our room was so beautiful, with a luxe feeling. The breakfast hamper the next morning was delightful and full to the brim with delicious local, fresh foods.

We have had endless comments from family and friends about how wonderful our day was, with many people commenting that it was one of the most beautiful weddings/venues they had been to - and we completely agree.

Thank you to everyone involved in making our day so perfect. We wish we could turn back the clock and do...

We had our wedding at Tocal Homestead in April and we couldn't have chosen a better venue. It was everything that we wanted - a stunning outdoor ceremony location, a beautifully renovated barn for the reception, gorgeous grounds for photos and the perfect atmosphere - calm and relaxed but with the air of something very special. It was a magical day.

Sprout Catering ran a seamless day - not a thing went wrong. They looked after the bridal party during canapés and photos - always ensuring that we had food and drink in hand, everything ran perfectly on time and the canapés and food at the reception was flawless. We had the banquet (shared plate) option and there was an abundance of delicious food. Nobody went home hungry (in fact, everyone went home very full) and many of our guests commented that it was the best wedding food they had eaten.

We also had the pleasure of staying at The Barracks. The groom and groomsmen stayed the night before and we spent our wedding night there. The rooms are lovely - as a History teacher, I really appreciated the plaques explaining the history of the place, the fireplace was cosy and the beds super comfortable. The staff are all wonderfully helpful as well - really easy to organise with in the lead-up and very willing to help...
