Exemplary wines in an idyllic setting. McIvor estate imbues sophistication and modernity, framed by Heathcote’s charming rusticity. The cellar door is cultivated by warmth and light, vaulted ceilings, wooden beams, and a sweeping bespoke, crafted wooden bar opening out to a deck area that seamlessly integrates with the lay of the land. It was a beautiful day, so we sat outside overlooking the vines, gormandising on a charcuterie board and olives. The theme at McIvor is Italiano with panache! They offer an array of Italian varieties to suit the most discerning palate. Their Nebbiolo was so well balanced, earthy, yet soft, and elegant on the palate. The Vermentino, a really unique offering, was luxe and dangerously moreish. The Roussanne was delectable and just too easy to drink, can’t blame them for that. In fact everything we tried there was on point. Good wine is like a first kiss, you never forget it. I can’t wait until these guys have their accommodation ready. Thank you Simon and Eunji. Your hospitality and personability was much appreciated. We...
Read moreWe have just spent a delightful afternoon at McIvor Estate winery. The cellar door with its spectacular views over the vineyard and the olive grove to the soaring granite hills makes a magnificent setting for a wonderfully relaxing afternoon. Simon and Eunji were extremly welcoming and offered great service, their friendly nature making you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. They offer a wide selection of wines with free tastings and the five varieties that we tasted were all exceptional with Simon displaying a wealth of knowledge of his wines. Eunjis pizzas for lunch were great, the coffee was fantastic and then came the chocolate. When you visit, you have to try the Nama chocolate. We had the dark, milk and whisky and they were absolutely next level. A wonderful way to spend a sunny winter arvo and we are already planning...
Read moreI've been to McIvor Estate twice now and loved both visits. Simon is a great host and I was pleasantly surprised at the range of wines and their age - a 2015 Nebbiolo, for example. It was drinking beautifully, along with many others in the 14 wine line up. Some interesting blends as well, like the Gewürztraminer / Chardonnay blend, and the magnificent 2014 'Giannisceddu' which is a Sangiovese / Cabernet Sauvignon blend.
I took some friends on my second visit and they we also impressed. We shared a Charcuterie platter, which easily feeds 4 and was great value. A glass of the lucious Rosé or excellent Vermentino are recommended here, or try a wine flight. Didn't get to try the pizza or deserts, but hey, there's always next trip. 100% worth the effort to call in here and enjoy the boutique...
