Absolutely stunning views from the middle of the hike and top, a must do if staying around Dunkeld. It is a fairly simple hike, but long and some steep inclines.
Tips: It is 3.3kms one way so around 2.5hrs return trip with small stops and quick steps Sandy trail and slippery even when it’s not wet, avoid when wet or post rains The trail is well covered by trees and bush for most parts, so it doesn’t get super hot. After noon, sun goes to the other side of the hiking trail, so best time to start would be 1-2pm for those who hate the sun as it’s completely in the shade of the mountain itself Avoid climbing after 6pm (like we did), though it’s not dark it gets very cooler on this side of the mountain and has all sorts of animals taking over the trail. We saw around 7 Wallabies and 2 Echidnas and a lot of other crawlers on or next to the trail. If you love sightings and aren’t bothered then this is the best...

Walk time if you have moderate fitness is 2.5 hours up and 2 hours back.
You will walk over 3 or more false peaks before getting to the peak of Mount Abrupt. It's the one with the geological survey marker at the top. Once you see that you know you are near.
You walk through bush area, forest area and a stone/rock area.
Make sure to stock up at Halls Gap or Dunkeld with water, snacks and loo break before commencing.
Plenty of views and photo opportunities. It was drizzling when I started the walk but by half way up it was clear and the drizzle helped cool me off so don't let the weather deter you from walking it.
Would recommend and definitely will do again. There is no chairs or rest areas. Some parts are steep but have steps...

It takes about 60 mins each way (so 2 hours in total) if you’re reasonably fit, but you’ll need plenty of water and you’ll get a nice legs and glutes workout! However anyone can do it if you take your time. There is a clear path to the top as well.
The parking for the start of the hike is on Grampians Road, just slightly north east of the summit as shown on google maps. You will see a sign for the parking anyway. It’s windy at the top so make sure you bring a jacket to block out the wind and cold if you’re staying up there for a bit to enjoy the views and have some...
