This cliff top lookout is only a few minutes out of Walkers Flat on the River Murray. It has a commanding view up and downstream and overlooks a large lagoon. There is a basic shelter there and parking in a gravelled carpark. It is fenced with a low fence to keep people away from the cliff edge. There are no public toilets. It is a recognised Dark Sky viewing area for nightly and space watching.

This is the place where you see the night beauty called Milkyway and Stargazing. It is worth to drive down there and enjoy beautiful dark night with full of stars over your head. I recommend to drive there at the time where the weather is more clear and have less moonlight. I have posted few of the shots that I have taken from this place and I would love to visit this place again soon.

Beautiful view at Maynard’s lookout of the river upstream from Walker Flat. River closest to bottom of photo and backwater behind that. So peaceful, but busy at warmer times of the year.

I recommend to drive there at the time where the weather is more clear and have less moonlight. Excellent lookout over the river with a nice covered shelter over a table and beach seats for protection against sun and rain. Unfortunately no rubbish bin so people jammed the rubbish in the gaps...
