This adventure will take you inland, just over the edge of the Great Escarpment to UNESCO-listed rainforest in a world of deep gorges and clear, murmuring streams. Washpool National Park is within the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. This comprises the largest areas of subtropical rainforest on the planet, as well as much of the world’s surviving beech cool temperature rainforest and huge tracts of warm temperature rainforest. Here you’ll encounter an extraordinary environment for hiking, among the ancient and primitive plants and animal species from which life on Earth evolved. Explore this primeval world on the half-day Washpool walk or lace up your boots for the 45-kilometre World Heritage walk, linking this park with the Gibraltar Range to the south.

We thoroughly enjoyed walking the shorter tracks, stopping along the way to listen to the rainforest noises and birds. We were even lucky enough to see three superb lyrebirds(two male, and one seemingly elusive female-by the walkers camp ground) We did walk the camp grounds and the facilities seem great! There was wood provided for fires, free BBQ, toilet and plenty of picnic tables. And with fees being cheap, it’s worth a day visit or a few nights camping.

This is a busy camp ground as it is really good. Electric BBQs. Water (not potable). Long drop toilet. Temperatures are great. Cold at night always. Great camp sites for trailers tents and vans. 2wd access. Great walks from short to long and rugged. Views to die for. Cost $ vehicle $8 per day persons are $6 or $3 per night.

EXCELLENT walk, loved it. You will need at least three plus hours to do the 8.5Km Washpool walk. We started at 11:30 and got back to the carpark around 14:45. You will need a reasonable level of fitness, even though we thought it is a reasonably easy hike. Two Red Ceder 1000 plus year old trees, huge trees, trees with birds nests and stag horns, ferns, figs, water falls, huge tree across the track to climb through (hope NSW parks don't touch it, helped to enhance the adventure)...Mother Nature is amazing... Track is well defined with the occasional notices to let you know you're still on the right track. Beautiful water falls. Make sure you take water, and have some snacks to enjoy while taking in the Summit...

I had an absolutely INCREDIBLE encounter with a superb lyrebird this weekend at #WashpoolNationalPark. OMG i felt so unbelievably blessed to be in his presence for as long as I did and as close as I did. He didn't even care that I was there as he scratched away at the leaf litter. And he stayed at our campsite (Coombadjha) the whole time we were there. What an absolute privilege to be in the presence of nature at it finest. And yes we did get to hear his amazing song! I identified at least 6 species in his...
