A fine bay for Western Australia, the winter's strength is ablated by the rest of the headland and the waters are relatively calm in comparison. The waters are shallow, sandy and extend for some distance so when swimming, you have clear waters and white sand underneath. Fishing from the Busselton Jetty can be a magical evening experience, and even enjoy the results of your work. Vast seagrass meadows provide ample environment for ocean life, with dolphins and sharks being popular top order predators. The sunsets can be majestic, but as the bay faces north, you do not get a great morning or evening sunset experience unless you are at either end of the bay. Downsides are the sandflea which bites, the hills of rotting seagrass after winter storm which cover the beach, anyone with a jet-ski can be heard for miles, and the rampant touristic appearance of the place is at great odds from the advertised rural ambience. Its not the gold coast, but it's not a forgotten paradise either. 3 1/2 stars rounded...
