Read morestunning place, surely the most beautiful beach in the world. gorgeous turquoise water, pure white sand. it doesn't get any better than this. the sandhills and vegetation have copped a hiding from the cyclone so that is really sad to see, the whole beach front vegetation is now dead will take decades to recover if at all. it must have been so beautiful those trees beforehand. it's almost distressing to see how many dead trees there are. but still it's a magical place. the beach is 4.5 km long, and the sourthern tip is busy with tourists, many chinese now, probably 50 boats each day, but you only have to walk 500 m north and u almost have the beach to yourself. so there is plenty of room to get away from the crowds. i think the best part of the beach by far is the northern section. we camped in our boat inside the inlet, several nights, and had basically the whole beach to ourselves each evening. walking the beach as the sun goes down is a highlight i'll never forget. you can't walk across the inlet at low tide to get to the lookout, we saw several groups of backpackers trying to do this. u need a boat. best way to see the beach is by your own boat, in which case u are truly living the dream. or hire a bareboat is very easy. or u can do a day trip from Hamilton Isl or Airlie Beach. but if u do make sure u walk north at least a bit to appreciate the beach away from the crowded southern end. not a good anchorage at night, off the beach, unless u are on a large boat. most people anchor around the corner at Chance bay or over at Chalkies. anyway certainly one of the worlds most beautiful places, and half way up the beach u have it to yourself. not many places u can...
