Fantastic place full of history. A real shame the mine isn’t open all the time but still worth the walk anyway. Make sure you see the Cemetery also and go for an explorer along the road of the Camp ground. Park at the old homestead and walk to the mine so you can see all the old building locations, or you can drive most of the way if you want. An easy walk for all ages, perhaps not in the wet though. Balaclava mine is a stunning sight to see. The geology is amazing as you look into this very deep open mine. Unfortunately you can no longer take the stairs down into it's depths. I was deeply disappointed in that however it's still a beautiful sight to be seen. Not far from the mine are huge old black boy plants that look like they are from Jurassic park, old aboriginal water wells and tree Whroo cemetery. You could spend days...

Amazing place with tons of history to explore. Great lookouts, views, and nice tracks/stairs to walk along with plenty of fauna and flora. It's very safe if you stay on the tracks. However, there are lots of dangerous areas to explore, as well as random holes. Great for daredevils looking for a thrill. Just please go with someone if you do 😄 and watch out for...

Beautiful place to walk around however you can't actually go down the stairs bit to the base of mines, due to lose rocks, rails falling of, you can jump through locked gate but be careful go slow, quite nice walking tracks done up to ashame they don't fix acces down to the mines.. Few great local bakery and shops
