When peoples from local areas or from foreign land see the incredible view of the Illawarra from north and way down south some 30km away , they are amazed and always come back year after year and a weekend visit is made by literally thousands of Sydney spiders just down for a hot coffee and a snack while taking in the whole panoramic offering which I know of no other part of NSW which comes even close in its very rare beauty that will still be there unchanged in the rocks and soil beneath the ample car parking spots and at the take off spot of the many hang-gliders who attract all sorts of camera bugs on any day they find the right wind conditions , sailing hundreds of feet above the tourists head's. Once you see it you remember the shear steep life edge concealed by the green flowing grassy spots in a few untouched patches . It's a bloody 100feet drop at least onto other mountain trees or further and very bad if the gliders go down into the water below. The drama of this place is dynamic and ad I said before I have been to Bald Hill at least close to 300times in my 62 years in the Illawarra. I am a guide in and around the new marina in shellcove as that is my local area now and it's a forty minute run up to bald hill , Stanwell tops and Helensburgh but I love the expectation of going there at least weekly. 10 out 10 for local goverment who arranged proper viewing decks and appropriate history info on display which makes people aware of this monumental people attraction magnet , and allows the safe practices of the hang gliders who make it look so effortless and they fly silently mostly and land just like a bird onto the grassy lands zones. You can book a flight with many of the friendly gliders guys and chick's, not me I get dizzy on a ladder haha, go and see for yourself , go straight up the motorway after mount outlet and turn left at the Helensburgh exit off ramp and follow the signs to Stanwell tops , takes around 40 minutes for me in my Mazda 2 blue rocket 2010 model neo hatchback all signed up with my business name on the back windows and side front doors. I drive fast fir my age but I have my wheels balanced and rotated each year plus a wheel alignment on thick and strong low profile tyres attached to very strong 4 mags from Bob Jane T-mart at shellharbour for such a low price, hundreds of dollars cheaper than everywhere else and they email every year to do my usual thing and book a service $65 for a great job which only takes the lads 1hour. If you have a nice car of any type you will meet lots of car enthused folk at bald Hill for a rest and some lunch or an icecream. If you then have time to do about an hours shopping in the Stanwell park area directly below bald hill , you will find many unseen treasures including a wine maker and brewer of a very growing reputation , order a taste or buy a bottle of unique wine and spirit drinks that will send you to heaven and back...

ย ย ย Read moreDefinitely one of the highlights of my trip back to Sydney from Wollongong. The view is incredible and honestly makes you ponder about how inconsequential humans are on this planet. We are merely a speck on a massive globe, and seeing the ocean from here, and everything from this perspective is nutty. The view of the ocean takes up literally half your field of view, and itโs just super calming as well. There are also cute, lovely but cautious rosellas here that appear friendly. Please donโt give them bread. If you do, you are only contributing to their sickness and Iโd like for you to wrestle with the gorgeous view.
Besides the spectacular view, there is a cafe, and more importantly the most advanced public bathroom Iโve ever had the pleasure of using. The cafe was unfortunately closed when we got there but the bathroom was definitely the main event. Everything felt so futuristic and automated. I may be a simple plebeian but holy moly, the little extra touches add up. Playing music while you do your business, automatic flushing once you wash your hands to avoid flushing, automated doors, oh man. It was pretty messy when I got there though, likely due to the works of some careless bread feeders. It was a lovely experience overall and I had...
