Woronora Dam is located approximately 50km drive from the Sydney CBD. You take the Sydney Freeway south towards Wollongong, Exit at Helensburgh and then head north on the Old Princes Highway following the signs to Woronora Dam. A wonderful place to spend the day. There are many BBQ’s to use along with tables and chairs. The toilets are clean which is great. Fortunately the dam was open today but I would definitely recommend that you check the website before coming. Would also definitely recommend taking a walk over the dam, the views are amazing, it was wonderful to see that there’s wheelchair access to the walk over the dam. There’s also disabled toilets. Suggestion - From the upper picnic area, you can walk across the narrow concrete bridge (Spillway Bridge) which provides an amazing view into the deep narrow cutting from the dam’s spillway to the river below. Would definitely recommend this gem of a place. Entry is Free 10am to 5pm daily 10am to 7pm on weekends No entry 15 minutes before closing Definitely worth a visit and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend....
Read moreGreat place to enjoy for a picnic and day trip. Located in the Heathcote National Park and within an hours drive from main Sydney suburbs. The place is not too crowded since a lot of the people go to the adjoining and more famous Royal National Park.
There are a couple of picnic areas, the upper picnic area and the lower picnic area which is closer to the dam.
The upper picnic areas has toilet facilities and kids play equipment plus BBQ facilities. The lower picnic area has everything too except for the kids play equipment.
The walk on the dam is nice a pleasant and the view of the Heathcote bushland is amazing. There are walks located around the area but there are a lot of restricted areas due to the proximity to the dam waters which supply water to the different Sydney suburbs.
The only think to note is due to the bushland setting there are goannas which roam freely in the upper picnic area. In e lower picnic area there are covered BBQ facilities and also place to...
Read moreI am an independent disability support worker and I took a couple of my participants to Woronora Dam today Thursday 1st April. There were plenty of picnic tables and quite a few BBQ s. There were tables undercover and in the open. Areas were well maintained and there are plenty of toilets, including disability toilets. The paths are well defined and can accommodate a wheelchair and can access the dam wall. The walk along the dam wall has viewing bays. My participants said they enjoyed themselves as this place...
