Was just looking for a place to run while taking some R&R time in Phegan’s Bay. The Tunnel Trail was suggested by Strava so off I went. It didn’t totally connect in my head that I’d have to run up Woy Woy Road just to get there. Not much a shoulder, but I ran on the side of oncoming traffic just so I could stare any would-be colliders in the eye. The Tunnel Trail thankfully had a small parking lot. Could fit maybe four or five cars in there.

All this on the way to Mount Wondabyne which I just felt like going to as I was in the middle of my run. It was thankfully a chill day because I was heated up and didn’t bring water. Thought there might be a spigot at the top of the Mount, but alas there was not. I settled for drinking in the sites instead. A beautiful panoramic vista was my reward for a hard slog up the Log walk and I crowed at the top my lungs as I slapped the peak marker. Not a soul within range to hear my joyous cries, but I took a few pics to celebrate the accomplishment.

Ran back, and still no water, and the lakes I passed on the way back looked tempting indeed.

Trail is only partially dog-friendly, with a lot of the trail marked off as no-dogs for the sake of the...

Incredible panoramic views from up top displaying The Great Dividing Range. You can see Woy Woy, Gosford and if you really squint a very small section of the Sydney CBD. Whilst there are some steep-ish parts the trails are mostly wide and easy to walk through.

Definitely a rewarding feeling after scaling this 251m "mountain" (apparently the definition of a mountain starts at 300m but who cares 🤫)

My friend and I started our hike at Wondabyne train station (named after the mountain) and then followed our way to join onto one of the actual trails for this mountain and the whole trip was so scenic and remote.

I recommend hiking Mt Wondabyne to absolutely anyone who can manage the distance, the views are so...

This spot is only accessible by foot. The final climb into Mount Wondabyne is very steep. The views from the top are amazing - you can see Palm Beach, Killcare, Ettalong, Woy Woy, Gosford, Somersby and west to the Blue Mountains. You can walk to Mount Wondabyne from Woy Woy Road and Wondabyne train station - take the track that leads off from the Hawkesbury Track. There’s a small cave here - people regularly stay overnight in it. Allow several hours to walk to this...
