Named after the Greek Goddess Artemis, the winery represents the elements of Artemis’ character such as creation and the harvest.
Today, it is a family run businesses and the 7th generation winemakers have been in the Southern Highlands since 1996 and have an absolutely stunning vineyard not far from Mittagong, and 1.5 hours drive from the Sydney CBD.. Made using locally produced fruit and the region produces a range of complex cool climate wines.
They practise a European wine style and approach to ripeness with focus on the individual flavour ripeness and small batch winemaking. Plenty of whites on offer, but they’re not for their reds and have a popular Pinot Noir. We loved the 2016 ‘CLOSE VINE’ PINOT NOIR at $50 a bottle but bought a cheaper option, the 2018 SAIGNEE (ROSE) which was a nice light wine.
We recommend you too, head to the stunning property and find the Artemis cellar door and enjoy a tasting of wine wines, ciders, meads and beer. The wine tasting is $5pp (price removed if you purchase a bottle) to decide your favourite.
The do host outdoor events and there’s plenty of food, from platters to wood fires pizzas and you can order wines by the glass or bottle.
Whilst it might not be the time of the year to be doing this with the social distancing measures in place, out it in your bucket list. Since we’re all at home at the moment, you can get your favourite wines delivered instead! They’re delivering for free when you order 6+ bottles. 20 % off...
Read moreDon't go if you have a medical condition/injury. My family and I visited over the weekend. To be brief, one of our party required a high seat due to a medical condition. Artemis made an easily correctable mistake. However, management's response to their mistake was to be rude, offer snide remarks, lie about the situation and offer zero solutions to their error. Long gone are the days where the customer comes first. My two favourite quotes were "I have to protect my staff" and "I can't control the sun."
In summary, we called ahead to ensure we were at a high table to accommodate the medical condition. We were told that everything was sorted. When we arrived, our table was swapped out for what appeared to be, off duty teenage staff and friends. After zero action from my multiple requests, I swapped back tables. The senior manager then entered the discussion, asked us to relocate and said she didn't appreciate our behaviour. After a brief discussion where I pointed out the true events with her staff, the manager finally realised her staff's mistakes, fumbled a response of "I have to protect my staff" and promptly tucked her tail between her legs and disappeared. We heard nothing more from any managers and assumed all was fine. We then had a lovely lunch with appropriate seating for the...
Read moreVisited on 29/8. Well the food was fantastic, we ordered a few of the platters and generally good value for money. However the wait time was ridiculous, Arrived at 1pm for our 2 hour seating ordered immediately (without even sitting down) and received our food at 2.05pm. The staff were obviously very busy and were trying their best, but we would of really appreciated being told there was a long wait. We went up to check at the 45 minute mark, and were waived off without any information. Honestly a bit more communication would have gone a long way and we would of been understanding and more than happy to sip on wine if we had been made aware of the 55 minute wait times. It was disappointing as when the food did arrive we realised we would need to order more but when we lined up again, (20 min wait in line - probably just needed more staff to serve) and got to the front a sign was put up the kitchen closed at 2.30 and there was nothing we could order. Just a combination of bad timing and clearly the team not prepared for it to be as busy as it was. Bitter sweet as it’s fantastic to see such a lovely winery doing so well, but just was a bit of a mess in terms of overall service and...
