Great views. Nice to wander around the dam area and look at the historical billboard things and see the history. Old quarry has really interesting granite and texture. There are a few hike trails both along the stream up to honeymoon pool and around the scarp area amongst the forest. (Scarp area is a bike track also apparently but some trails are walk only). I hiked to honeymoon pool and its not as well travelled but still a good trail. A few tricky bits with loose gravel at start and a few dropped trees awaiting clearing but a nice invigorating hike anyway. Honeymoon pool is a really good spot for camping. Sheltered under the trees and a few native ducks with little fear of humans wandering around fossicking the way they do and seems a little better maintained. Trails could be a little bit better marked but they do have some signs up at any split in trails so dont think you would get lost easily. Would have been nice to have a few more with distance markers or similar. Initially gad trouble finding the stary point for trail from dam end but found it across road from cafe with map sign. Have a cafe on-site with seating and seemed to have good facilities but didnt use that stuff myself. Random tip for hikers going anywhere? Take pics of those maps at start or info stands so you can reference back during the hike and also add pins in google maps etc. You wont get directions from google but it gives you idea of where you are and...
Read moreA nice little spot away from the city but within the 3 hour perimeter. Honeymoon Pool gets crowded on a hot day, so if you're staying the night be quick to get a spot. And don't forget your inflatable unicorn if you want to go down the Gelcoat Rapids. It isn't so nice going down on your bum.
The smaller stops along the way are also worth a stop if you prefer smaller crowds. Stop at Little Rock for a picnic spot on flat boulders right but the water. No camping here though.
The water was very refreshing all along the river. The kind you take a deep breath before dipping your toes in.
There's a few walks around the area that I would have liked to do. It seemed like a relaxing stroll to get away from the crowds and their myriad...
Read morePlenty of campsites. Got to book online early for holidays. Larger tents might need to be on harder gravel so bring heavy mallet and pick. All have picnic bench / table and cast iron fire place with plate and Billy hook. Bag of wood lasts 2 nights, purchased from Kiosk. Toilets great condition, long drop type. Campers kitchen available. Pump track at Potter George. Short bush walk to Kiosk and dam. Back burning might close off tracks. Honeymoon pool for a swim short drive away or day trip if track not closed. Dam for water skiing or paddleboarding. Warning: Generators permitted so makes the night very noisy. 10pm turn off time not always followed. Has been repeatedly observed by reviewer over...
