Maria Plain — Attraction in Bergheim

Beautiful church perched high on a hill. I first saw this church a few years ago from the train and then by car and tried to figure out what it was and the location then discovered it was called Maria Plain.

Finally on my travels this year - Aug 2024, I got to visit. It is in the middle of nowhere so you would need a car/taxi to get there as it is not accessible via public transport.

Quite a few steps to climb but not arduous. Once at the top if you turn left and go to the Christ statue, you are rewarded with amazing panoramic views over the city of Salzburg.

The church is very ornate and elaborate, there are many things to photograph and look at. A peaceful and serene place. There are benches by the tree to sit and relax whilst you take in the views over the city.

Pros: view is very good, especially if you're sitting towards it. Place looks nice and clean. The atmosphere is very relaxing. Food tastes good.

Cons: only one waiter spoke English and this caused us to wait longer for everything we wanted waiter for. Waiter was annoyed at us because he was called every time we wanted something (only he spoke English). He made us feel like he hates us being there. NO vigan options. Had to order customized salad that came with eggs and mayonnaise the first time.

Neutral: Prices are standing'ish to Austria. Food takes about 30~ minutes to be ready.

Would not go...

Between 2004 and 2016 I lived in the city of Salzburg and suffered a lot from noise pollution, poor air quality and light pollution. Therefore, I very often walked from the city of Salzburg to Maria Plain at night after work. I especially enjoyed the atmosphere of this area. It is something special. Maria Plain is a magical place.
