What an incredible experience! My hike at Raggaschlucht was unforgettable. According to my activity tracker, I covered 2.60 miles with an elevation gain of 1,197 ft in 58 minutes and 54 seconds.
Parking was free, but as you follow the signs up, you'll encounter a ticket office with restrooms and a souvenir shop housed in containers. The signage is excellent, so you can't miss it. Entry is €9 per person, and it's absolutely worth it to witness the spectacular gorge.
The wooden boardwalks are impressively sturdy, yet it's truly astounding how they've been constructed along such towering rock faces. With the recent rain, the waterfalls were powerful and the water flow incredibly strong, making for an even more dramatic sight. Austria has many beautiful gorges, but each has its own unique character, and Raggaschlucht is certainly no exception – it was truly wondrous!
The restrooms were clean and free to use, which is always a plus. Do note that the hiking trail is one-way only. The return downhill is quite steep, so if you have knee concerns, a pair of foldable hiking poles would be invaluable for the descent.
This geological trail also offers fascinating insights into the region's history, from the swift incision of the gorge by water and ice to the ancient rock movements and the formation of the Alps millions of years ago. It's a fantastic blend of natural beauty and geological education.

Read moreHiking trail - nature. A 3.4 km trail (I think a little less) The trail takes about two hours plus (depending on the number of visitors) Amazing wild nature A very comfortable trail on wooden bridges. There is parking until the start of the trail and then about a 15-minute walk up a fairly steep hill to the entrance counter. Fee for 2+2 about 30 euros. Then the trail begins with a lot of water and a low temperature (outside was 17 degrees, on the trail about 12 degrees). Good walking shoes are recommended, there are slippery places and also with mud. The trail passes over wooden bridges and a lot of stairs (climbing), amazing views and lots of places to stop for photos. At the end of the trail, you return to the starting points on a difficult descent of...
Read moreIncredible place! We went before 10am and there were not a lot of people, when we were coming out it was a lot busier. Car park is on street level and there’s a steep walk to the entrance of the place, then of course quite some steps uphill at the gorge but totally doable with the right shoes and clothes (saw some people walking up from parking wearing long skirts and not sure how they managed it but shorts/trousers are more recommended). The wall back through the forest is beautiful as well with stunning views but also quite steep so be prepared as you...
