Burgruine Rauhenstein — Attraction in Gemeinde Baden

Last week I was under orders from King Leopold VII to espionage a capture for this fortress. With me was my girlfriend’s Father. We arrived by carriage drawn by four horses to the bottom of the castle. The way up was steep but not too challenging for a young knight such as myself. Around 1/4 of a sun degree later we reached the gate. It was barred and and an old French man told us to go away because we smelled of elderberries. Upset at this, we scrambled up the pathway further to the top of the hill. There we could see all around. Perfect for King Leopold VII, I thought. We found a small crevasse inside the small tower on the wall and snuck in. The way down to the courtyard was rocky and uneven, but we made do. On closer inspection from The inside of the castle walls, there was a second gate that was not quite closed. Luckily, my accomplice and I fit right in. We looked around the castle, visiting the main tower (only halfway to the entrance, there’s a lot of disrepair) and down into the wine cellar. We also found fireplaces, bedrooms and even a rose garden overlooking the valley. Perfect for my King. After some more nosing around we left, enjoyed the views and walked down to our carriage. 10/10 but really that French man is rude and you need...

Rauhestein vár története A Rauhestein vár, amely Baden bei Wien közelében található, számos izgalmas és romantikus történetet rejt magában. A várat először 1186-ban említik, és az évszázadok során többször is elpusztult és újjáépült. A középkorban a Rauhestein vár a szemben lévő Rauheneck várral együtt a Badenből kivezető utat biztosította.

Történelmi események és változások 1526-ban a törökök elpusztították a várat, de részben újjáépítették. 1683-ban, a második török ostrom után ismét lakhatatlanná vált. A 19. században a vár romjai romantikus kirándulóhellyé váltak, és a környék népszerű turisztikai célpont lett.

Közterület és közlekedés változásai A vár környéke az évszázadok során jelentős változásokon ment keresztül. A középkorban a vár stratégiai fontosságú volt, mivel a Badenből kivezető utat biztosította. Ma a vár romjai könnyen megközelíthetők a badeni Hotel Sachers parkolójából induló túraútvonalon keresztül.

History of Rauhestein Castle Rauhestein Castle, located near Baden bei Wien, Austria, is steeped in numerous exciting and romantic stories. First mentioned in 1186, the castle has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times over the centuries. In the Middle Ages, Rauhestein Castle, along with the nearby Rauheneck Castle, secured the road leading out of Baden.

Romantic and Spicy Stories One of the most famous legends associated with the castle is a love story. In the Middle Ages, a noble lady living in the castle fell in love with a simple knight. However, her family disapproved of their love, and the knight was banished. In her grief, the lady threw herself from one of the castle towers, and it is said that her ghost can still be heard around the castle at night.

Historical Events and Changes In 1526, the castle was destroyed by the Turks but was partially rebuilt. In 1683, after the second Turkish siege, it became uninhabitable again. In the 19th century, the ruins of the castle became a romantic hiking destination and a popular tourist spot in the area.

Changes in Public Areas and Transportation Over the centuries, the area around the castle has undergone significant changes. In the Middle Ages, the castle was of strategic importance as it secured the road leading out of Baden. Today, the ruins of the castle are easily accessible via a hiking trail starting from the parking lot of Hotel Sachers in Baden.

Rumors and Interesting Facts Many rumors and legends are associated with the castle. One of the most famous stories is that a former owner of the castle, a count, had a secret tunnel built between the castle and the nearby church to move around unnoticed.

Although the palace is closed for viewing, my colleague and I still decided to visit it, by stepping up a little it is possible to explore it from the inside, as everything that is visible here is a pleasure for the eyes...
