Hinterer Gosausee — Attraction in Gosau

Oh my goodness, what a place! Truly one of the most majestic sights on the planet!

But be warned: the hike up there is gruelling. I'm a 35 year old who plays amateur football at a high level so I am not unfit and it was challenging. The majority is steeply uphill and punishing on amateur walkers. And it is not a short walk, taking a solid 45 mins from the main lake at Gosausee. Take lots of water and snacks for energy. But oh boy is it worth it once you get to the top. Stunning landscapes, a gorgeous smaller lake, and a huge feeling of accomplishment! Truly one of the highlights of our 6 week...

You can walk about 5-6km from the carpark to Hinterer Gosausee. There is quite a bit of up hill, but it’s accessible with a flat path the whole way.

I was lucky to be there with no one else. It was so quiet and beautiful.

This lake is so peaceful! You can reach it by feet it's like 7.5 km from the Vorderer gosausee and way more quiet and less touristic. It is reachable by everyone. You have a little bit of slope but that's okay and that's worth it. I could even swim with...
