It's a nice place to get yourself and your kids acquainted with the history of the area. However, it feels a bit too static. There are no farm animals, there are no activities to demostrate crafts (but for one and only spot) The kids usually get bored rather soon from looking at pretty much the same wooden buildings, no matter how important the development of the architectural style they represent is. There is a playground, though, and a restaurant. And a park train. And a special water spring with "healing" water.
Generally, I wouldn't say it's an exciting place to go to, but just nice. Very nice. A lovely walk in the mountain woods, looking at and inside some pretty countryside buildings of old.
It's a lot of walking on pebbled paths going up and down. Wear good, strong, closed shoes.
They do care to have most of the paths wheelchair accessible! It's still a lot of going up- and...

If the weather is nice this place is amazing - it is 100 acres of historic buildings that have been dismantled from their original settings and re-built in this park.
There is a little train that does a loop round the grounds, - which we did at the end - and then there are about 80-100 buildings that range from a shop, farms, lime kiln, churches, homes, a fire station, a factory and much much more.
Buildings vary in style region to region, and in age - but all are old.

A great place for kids to let off steam too (if we had any!) .... and entry I think was about...
Read moreThe Freilicht Museum is a very interesting embodiment of a theme park - many buildings from different centuries were dismantled in different areas of the Salzburg district, such as Lungau, Pongau, Pinzgau, Tennengau, Flachgau, and then assembled and installed in one open-air park. You can see different lifestyles and different tools. It is simply incredible and interesting for both adults and children. The railway runs continuously in the park, the train is included in the cost of the ticket (€12, October 2024). I recommend it, the park located in the forest. It is big and very interesting, you have to plan a few hours...
