The worst service I have experienced in a while. This shouldn’t be an Alpenverein Hut after all. I get that this place is very touristy, but the personell especially the chief of the hut made you feel like you were just a number. Very unfriendly and not helpful at all and always watching over you. The prices are crazy for a Alpenvereins Hut or maybe they charged us more as usual I don’t know. He also didn’t give me back the full change when paying, which I noticed just later. A day later we payed a third of the price at a nearby high alpine hut with better homemade food and really kind service. The rooms were cold, with no functioning heating and basic blankets like on an alpine hut above 3000m. The bathroom was moldy and very basic as well. This hut is located right next to a main road and charges prices more expensive than a lot of other high alpine huts. Would avoid this one and choose another alternative...
Read moreGreat place to drive to and start a hike or ascent to the summit of the highest mountain in Austria (Großglockner). The people in the Glocknerhaus were Medium friendly. Therefore only 4 stars rating. The region itself is beautiful!
In the summer, about the first half of the ascent towards the summit is easy and the second half contains an alpine part (requires at least crampons) and some Rock climbing (maybe not easy for beginners). If you have little experience with either alpine ascents or rock climbing, you definitely should to book a guide (groups up to 3 people per guide). Most people who think they are experienced enough still get themselves into life-threatening situations here quickly, even when the weather is good; but BEWARE the weather can be very unpredictable the closer you get...
Read moreOur group stayed there for a night between days of hiking. We took night stay and half-board and it was super expensive for what we got. Only one dish on the menu for dinner (no option for vegetarian!), no hand soap in rooms (Covid pandemia is still active!), only one blanket per person and the sheats weren't in the price. We arrived at breakfast at 7:05 and the serving table was already half empty, we didn't have enough coffee for all of us, also there wasn't enough juice for all of the guests. The staff was helpful but service was very slow. We are definitely not coming back. It wasn't terrible but definitely not good...
