The ski area is easy to reach by train and by car. A big bonus here is that it already opens at 7:30am. I advice to be there before 8am. In the morning the ski runs are still fresh and enjoyable. Usually at around 10am more people arrive. The west facing ski runs tend to get really icy. If you want a scenic place for a lunch break, visit Wedelhütte.
Ski runs you should definitely check out are: the nr 6 or 7 starting at the Wimbach Gondolas (gives an amazing panorama); the nr 10 from Kristallexpress; nr.3 is fun but tends to get crowded in the afternoon; nr 1 valley run (in low snow conditions it might be rough or closed though); nr 13 is a fun and mostly quiet run; the nr 6 (picture) and 10 in Hochfügen are fun.

I'm also an off-piste riding enthusiast and the fact that here you can find some signs of a controlled off-piste area is very comforting. And I think it is the only resort in Zillertal Valley that offers an avalanche safety training park. Oh, and the main gondola station when arriving on the plateau looks like a small museum, showcasing vintage chairlifts and a snow-making machine. And they have a hair dryer in the restrooms - I almost fainted when I saw this unexpected feature :)) Super love for Kaltenbach...
Read moreThis is a great ski resort! It is more for the serious skier than the for après-ski crowd. There are fewer green runs and more red and black than other resorts but this is great.
Lift passes (under €60/day) and equipment rentals (about €37/day) are affordable which makes it a little more fun.
You can get a good lunch for €8.
If you go for a chalet on the mountain, recommended, then you can find really nice places for a very good price.
