Awesome beyond recommendable!
The owners answered all our preliminary questions swiftly and straightforwardly and provided us with an additional bed since we slightly exceeded the hut's capacity. They guided our taxi to the cabin, were available for questions right at our arrival and even came over for a nice sit-in some days later (treating us with local specialties).
The cabin easily fulfilled our expectations of a dreamy, almost fairy tale-like abode with loads of charme while also providing all the comfort of a modern holiday home - centuries old and rural at ground level, but modern and cozy upstairs with electricity and heating all throughout).
There is a small pond, an almost comically cute outhouse (don't worry, there are modern toilets in the cabin), a small playground with a swing, a sauna (!), a barbecue and even a tiny chapel, for good measure.
The vista is breathtaking, hiking destinations are signposted, also provided online and you could just ask the owners for recommendations, anyways.
If you have work to do: Cellphone reception is stable outside and upstairs but understandably spotty on the ground floor, among its thick stone walls. Connection speeds are changeful but range from just enough for mail to sufficient for HD streaming. I wrote part of my thesis there and did not feel particularly hindered (though you should really enjoy nature up there, unless you really have to get some work done ;-)
Of course, you should look up the weather forecast and plan accordingly (compared to the valleys, the weather tends to be a bit more changeful up on those pastures). Be advised, that you should bring consumables for your whole stay unless you plan to hike all the way down to the nearest village and up again with baggage (though the owner's homestead is nearby and will provide you with eggs and dairy products and more, if in a pinch).
The only "caveat" is, you should feed the cats living in the barn a stone's throw away and maybe give a pat to the cows and pigs grazing nearby :-)
Our group of eleven did not utter a single complaint (that I know of) and is still full of praise for the cabin and its owners.
This review might seem positive over the top - I promised the owners (the Hölzl family) a favourable review and I am happy to fulfill my promise, though I might edit it if seems too positive and phony.
