SÜDBAHN Museum — Attraction in Mürzzuschlag

The building is by the train station, infect in this year you have to walk "around" due to the building of the Basetunel. (takes around cca 10-12 min by walk from the platforms). The construction will be finished in 2021.

The Museum has all necessary features beside the exhibition: coffee in an old wagon (!), a gift and book shop and a CHARMING local guide.

The atmosphere of the building is one of the best you expect from a train museum, the themes are well designed, many attractions which can be tried by anybody, the basement, where the feelings of the 19-century-crowd is explained, the smells...

There is a second building (beside the main Museum building) in which many rare locomotives, machines are exhibited. Absolutely worth to visit.

In last autumn a brand new lookout tower has been set by the rail-tracks in front of the entrance of the new tunnel (80 steps wooden one), which is to introduce the idea of the Base Tunnel.

The three attractions + coffee + gift shop requires at least 2,5 hours. Parking is free next to the Museum.

Very interesting museum. It took me 2-2,5 hours to go through the exhibition with the help of their app. I also had the opportunity to practice my weak Deutsch mit die Kassiererin. If I could recommend a slight change, dear SÜDBAHN Museum, you should get the exhibited newspapers, letters and other written show-pieces translated in the app.The museum can be approached from the railway station via the underground passage. I'd recommend this place, and I can't wait to visit the Museum again!...

Ich besuchte das Museum im Rahmen der Langen Nacht der Museen. Eine für den Aussenbereich angekündigte Führung stellte sich als Infoveranstaltung zu den geplanten und bereits durchgeführten Restaurierungen heraus. Dazu wurde auf einem (!) Tablet der Gruppe Bilder etc. Aus der Mürz App gezeigt. Wie auch bei meinem Handy schien die App an diesem Abend überlastet und stürzte ständig ab. Im Programm war angekündigt, dass die Museen ab jetzt "digital" gehen würden... In der Haupthalle spielte etwas unmotiviert ein Trio irische Volksmusik, die Hälfte der Ausstellung war gesperrt- warum, war nicht wirklich nachvollziehbar. Fragen nach den gross angekündigten digitalen Führungen konnte teilweise nicht einmal die Kuratorin beantworten. Hatte extra Gäste aus Kärnten eingeladen. Enttäuschend... In den Ferien das neue Angebot "Time Traveller" ausprobiert. Für 3 Jugendliche ( 13 bis 16 Jahre) und mich zahlte ich 40 Euro. Das Escape Spiel ist gut durchdacht und mit der App gut spielbar. Vorbereitungen durch die Mitarbeiter ist nötig, man wird für etwa 5 bis 10 Minuten gebeten, vor der Tür zu warten. 2,3 Aufgaben waren nicht schlüssig, ich gab dazu Feedback, ist vielleicht schon geändert. Den Jugendlichen gefiel es, ich fand den Preis...
