Museum Liaunig — Attraction in Neuhaus

What makes this museum interesting is the story behind its construction and the owner, and how everything came together to make it possible. You can get all this detail with a guided tour. You do have to be interested in funky, off beat 'art' pieces as there are few 'classic' canvas paintings and mostly unique one-of-a-kind objects. If you're into modern art objects and impressively constructed spacious galleries you'll likely enjoy the ~2 hour experience. The outdoor exhibition is also worth the time.

There is no curator the way most museums have but the guide we had was very knowledgeable and had many stories and entertaining anecdotes to tell along the way.

The museum is out of the way and requires a country drive to reach it from one of the cities in the province of Carinthia. It's located very near the Slovenian border. Pick a sunny day to stroll the grounds. Ein ganz besonderes Museum, das sich mit seiner eleganten Architektur, seiner einzigartigen Sammlung und einfach der gesamten Atmosphäre durchaus mit Kunst- und Naturorten wie Louisiana oder Kröller Möller vergleichen kann. Von der lang gezogenen, hellen Ausstellungshalle mit seinen Kunstwerken meist österreichischer und tschechischer Künstler seit 1945 wandert der Blick immer wieder durch die Fenster nach draußen- ein toller Dialog. Und wer auch vielleicht beim Wort "moderne Kunst" skeptisch sein mag: Für mich erschienen die Werke in ihrer Untersxhiedlichkeit alle inspirierend und "sehenswert". Sehr empfehlenswert ist auch die tägliche Führung um 11 Uhr, die noch einmal viel Hintergrundwissen über Werke und Künstler vermittelt.
