Absolutely underwhelming and disappointing - if you don't count the big waterfall in the very end of it (which isn't really anything that astonishing if you have seen a fair share of other before), there isn't much to see in the Lichtensteinklamm. Others like Sigmund-Thun-Klamm or Seisenbergklamm have much more to offer and have left significantly greater impression on me.
If anything the entire place is one big overwhelming tourist attraction with a ton of souvenir shops and restaurants on every corner and an awful amount of people everywhere (four parking lots, which are constantly full say a lot about that).
I was there around 10AM and it was already crowded, when we were leaving in the early afternoon people were standing long lines for tickets and I frankly can't imagine how much of an unpleasant experience it had to be for them once they finally got in because the biggest mistake this place has is that there is only one narrow route in the entire Klamm - you are passing by people who are leaving and even those who have just entered, constantly standing in the lines, waiting for people to pass or you abruptly have to stop because someone in front of you suddenly decided that they want to take photo or take a break because they were out of breath from all the stairs that were everywhere... There wasn't really any way how to truly enjoy and appreciate the little beauty...
Read moreThis was a strange experience. We often like to go off the path and explore little geological oddities, but this was staying on the incredibly secure path to see a huge geological oddity!
The idea is simple walk to the end of the path and back. The views are brilliant. The safety (not something I normally worry about) was 10/10.
Here's some tips:
Ignore the parking guess panel at the start it has no idea if the car parks are full or not. If you arrive at about 11:30 then try your luck for the furthest car park. Everyone will be ditching their cars in every half space they can find, just drive confidently past. Past the next car park, and the next. Up into P1. Now choose whether to go on past this toilet stop and shop up to the last tiny car park. Either way you'll probably find a car parking space up here, while other people are filling up the road outside with some crazy sketchy unsafe parking.
Make sure you use the toilet to the fullest extent, because once you pass the turnstile there's no way to access any amenities for the next...
A nice gorge but avoid during peak times, as recommended by the website. We felt it was overhyped and not quite worth it given our experience.
The gorge is beautiful with very blue water. I highly recommend not coming during their peak times (10-14:30). Although the website recommends against it, we came around 10am and the place was packed. We had bought our tickets online so went in the fast lane which was about 10 minutes to wait because it merges with the slow lane (people buying tickets on site). The path through the gorge is generally narrow with many stairs (metal and wood). Traffic moves single file in both directions and there’s not really opportunity to stop and take pictures because you will hold up everyone behind you. The experience is short so take your time.
When we left it was around 11:30 and both the fast lane and the slow lane for tickets were incredibly long, almost the same length and the parking lots were completely packed, people were even parked on the side of the road...
