I am currently on holiday in Mayrhofen for a week. Originally we wanted to use the Penkenbahn cable car to get to the Mayrhofner Bergbahnen ski resort. However, it was closed so we decided to use the closest option, the Horbergbahn cable car. The experience with this cable car was really unpleasant. We haven't even finished our holiday yet and now I have to share our experiences. The very first day we arrived at the cable car at 8:30. Right at the entrance to the cable car which is supposed to be open from 8:30 we were stopped by a closed metal gate. We waited at it for about an hour and a half with other people. The cable car staff didn't even tell us what was going on. So finally the cable car luckily opened and we got up the hill a little later. On Tuesday nothing special happened. Wednesday. (On this day) the cable car was open but every 30 seconds it stopped and stood still for another 30 seconds. So the whole hill took the cable car about 1 hour and a couple of minutes. When we wanted to take the cable car back, we were again stopped by a metal gate and this time the staff informed us that we would be waiting for 20 minutes. So the cable car was finally open. But after getting on, we had the same experience as the morning of this day. Just after leaving the terminal, the cable car was stuck again. I am currently writing this review directly from the cable car as I have quite a bit of time (the cable car is stationary). I don't know if we were just lucky or if this is a daily occurrence here. Tomorrow is our last day of skiing so I'm afraid what will happen tomorrow. But maybe we will switch to another lift (finkenberg). If this is normal, I recommend...
Read moreHigh quality ski resort in the Austrian region of North Tyrol (Zillertal/Ziller Valley). Lots of slopes catering to all levels of skiers, a few red slopes have pretty steep sections but still mostly feasible when groomed. Front blue slope (28/29) and end of major red slope (31) leading to the Lärchwald chairlift are often crowded with kids and punters, but you can easily reach less frequented areas such as Horberg (Schneekar/Gerent chairlift) and Rastkogel (150er Tux aerial lift). Lots of opportunities for eating and drinking directly...
Read moreOnce you are up you should get out of this area as soon as you can. We had to be there every day for our sun his ski lessons. Stationed just in front of the Penken Bahn, bit all other ski schools were either fully booked or bad. Lot of ski classes and only a steep decent to the lifts. With all the beginners it becomes an instant big mess. Lots of semi accidents happen here. Also the restaurant is maybe the worst of all from the whole ski area. Fast food approach and similar taste. Ski school Fankhauser is...
