I was here for the Formula 1 Austrian GP. Stayed in Graz (approx 80 km from the track with car) over the weekend and rented a car to travel to and from Red Bull Ring.
Arrival to the ring was smooth, we decided to leave around 7 am from Graz every day. Parking when arriving was easy and police showed the way to parking lots. You must figure out what parking is best for you yourself there is no guidance, but in general they are all pretty close.
We had tickets to Tribune T3 which is a temporary stand that is only built when there is a need. This stand is located on the back of the track in turn 3 and the highest point of the track, view is great from here.
You have to prepare for walking quit, to get to the stand. You have to walk outside the whole track to the back to get to the stand which takes about 15-20 minutes from the Fan Zone.
You can see a lot of the action around the whole track since the location is so high up. Also there is a lot of overtaking in this turn for F1 cars. The view and scenery is wonderful. This is a really beautiful track built with the landscape.
There is a TV screen (as you can see on the pictures) but it was to far away so you could not read the text this is a big minus especially in qualifying and practice were we could follow the times at all. And phone coverage is none existing with the large crowd all trying to access the network authentication same time
You can buy food (burgers and sausages) and there is different stands to buy soft drinks (red bull) and beers.
Restrooms are plenty so no queues at all.
Leaving the parking after the event is a total disaster...this is were the organizers really have to do some work. It took us between 1-2 hours just to get out of the parking. And you really need to make your way otherwise you will never get out. There is no organized queue to get out so everyone is just driving to the small, single rode exit and then...
Read moreDISCLAIMER: This is a review for GENERAL ADMISSION AREA only.
Probably the hottest weekend in Austrian GP ever. Just few water refill stations (5 maximum) in entire General admission area, queues for up to hour. Water bottle bigger than 0,5l prohibited at the gates (obviously not everyone's bigger water bottle was detained at the gates - but it sucks if you take the bullet).
Basically you are stripping people of an easy access to water. How about installing few water sprinkle arcs in the area for cooling down & providing more refill stations? Would that really be THAT BIG of an investment from your side after cashing out tens of millions $ from ticket sales alone?
Do you consider one cooling fan right behind the green gates to be enough? Friday - fan was working, Saturday - lower water sprinkling. Sunday - water sprinkling was gone. We are talking about the only cooling fan to be found in the whole area!!!
Did you know in these conditions a person has to drink at least 3-4 liters of water? How can one achieve this by refilling one small bottle of water when it takes 45 minutes to get water? I would have to be getting water all the time!!
At last but certainly not least, we had to leave theGP 5 laps early, so we wouldn't be stuck in the parking area for hours on this incredibly hot day. This is not how you treat fans - I saw many of them just passed out, not even able to enjoy the race, exhausted, dehydrated and many many disgusted faces. Remember they paid you considerable amount of money for this.
I consider it is more probable that you will make people pay for the free water next time, instead of investing into the water supply infrastructure and some cooldown sprinklers or tents that would provide more shade. Definitely our last time at Redbull ring for F1 weekend. The experience overall was bittersweet & that taste...
Read moreWorst experience ever,on race day only one car park, miles away of walking to get to the track, only got one entrance and exit so had to go all the way around the track under 35 degrees c,no water provided from staff, actually for half of liter of water it was 3.50 €,an absolute joke, Organization is insistent,no signs or anything like that,on a Friday where access is free to everyone everywhere, been denied to get to stands as according to the staff it was full, when you could clearly see that there was plenty of space. In a race day staff didn't allowed us to stay on the grass to watch the race as 'it was for yellow tickets only' on the grass!!! Really upsetting that only because you buy a green ticket you are classified as someone who has got no right at all at the venue. Staff English so poor too. Least but not least at the end of the race when in every track they open the gates to let people through the race track it doesn't happen in Austria as they only open the gates for the verstappen stand, again as if because I had the green ticket I didn't have no value to them but I travelled all the way to Austria and spent money all over not only on the track venue, Also not letting me through the gates and on the track I had to go all the way around again to get to the car park that was miles away. Been to Monza few years ago and is so much better organized, got access to all different area at the Friday and all gates were open after the race allowing everyone to go for a track walk. Really not coming back here and really not recommend anyone to come you will be ripped off and event...
