Wow, this is an incredible trail! The hike cuts through a gorge carved out by a river with wooden walkways built along the walls. The trail then goes up to a beautiful old monastery that has a cafe. The apple strudel with ice cream and raspberry soda was a delightful treat with an amazing view. Just take the S4 train about 30 min to Stans b. Schwaz Bahnhst. It's then about a 2-3 hour roundtrip hike. The gorge trail does have a fee of 6€ and only about half the hike is through the gorge. But the whole hike is scenic and I thought was totally worth it. To be honest, the pictures of the gorge really can't do it justice and must simply be experienced.

It is a moderate to difficult hike. I saw some families with babies and toddlers struggling a bit. Not sure it's that kind of hike. Also it can be a little confusing to follow the trail once you get out of the gorge. There are basically two options: either the lower route back to Stans village or the upper route to the monastery and then to Stans through another trail. The girl at the ticket booth recommended the upper route. There are some signs to follow but the monastery route is right and up a gravel service road. There are also some church stations of the cross along the road up to the two old chapels. There's also a cool old covered wooden bridge spanning a canyon to get get to the monastery.

Getting back to Stans is also a little confusing but just follow the signs for Maria Tax and Stans. At first it follows the gravel road but then the Maria Tax trail cuts down off the road becoming a hiking trail through the forest again. At one point it crosses another gravel road down past another chapel.

Overall a fun and beautiful half-day hiking trip...

Great 2 hours with return. We asked the lady collecting the 5 EUR fee for directions or a map and she explained that it’s super easy and just follow the trail, no map needed. When we spotted a brochure/flyer and asked if that contains a map, she said we should just listen to her, as she clearly explained to just follow the trail. So, we walked and at the end of the Klamm, the path breaks into two directions. No signs, no map, no explanation of anything. No cell reception. Nice. We picked one path and it brought us back into the main town from where we backtracked to the parking lot. But “just follow the trail” did not work as easily as the lady insisted it would be. We’re from here and this by far isn’t our first Klamm. Other than that: very nice walk up and keep in mind it’s one way, you have to return via the...

Entrance is 5 euros. The parking is also 5 euros, and often full. You can park for free on several places in the village and walk to the entrance. From the parking lot it is 500 meters to the entrance. The george is beautiful but steep with a lot of stairs (sturdy shoes advised). Parts can be wet and slippery. It is a little over 1km to the end of the george, and it is one-way only. At the end of the george is a gate. After the gate, you can choose to go back (1 hour walk) or walk 15 minutes uphill to St. Georgenberg. At St. Georgenberg is a beautiful monastery and a restaurant with a stunning view. Total elevation is around 400 meters (to the monastery) and the round trip was 7km. There are signs along the way back to the parking in Stans.
