In terms of a mushroom museum it's fairly large. I believe it closed this weekend for the season. But what sets it apart from others is the attention to detail in their construction and the setting in which they are presented. Hundreds of mushrooms ranging from ladyfinger size to 1kg steinpilze are lovingly represented in concrete. The artist spent years painstakingly recreating the mushrooms of the area by sculpting the shape and size and then coloring them as accurately as possible, in most cases 3 or 4 examples in various sizes and states of growth. They take great care to make sure you can recognize the difference between one that is edible and one that may poison you by arranging some of them side-by-side so you see just how similar friendly and unfriendly mushrooms can be. I took pictures of all the edible sorts to aid in identification, albeit I wouldn't eat certain kinds with them being vetted by an expert. A mushroom club exists nearby where you can have your mushrooms checked. There's also a time at the market where an expert can check them. The museum is free for those with a Kaernten Card, a great value if you spend a few days holidaying or visiting in Carinthia. Il Museo Pilz dei funghi si trova a Treffen, vicino a Villach sulla strada che porta da Villach a Ein. . Non è la classica vetrina con le specie di funghi messi in mostra, ma un museo con ricostruzione di ambienti e stagioni, che vanta il maggior numero di reperti realistici. Si parte al primo piano da una spiegazione interessante delle tipologie di fungo esistenti con tanto di formule chimiche che accompagnano ingrandimenti delle strutture di gambo e cappello. Se avete bambini si divertiranno sicuramente ad indovinare quali sono i funghi commestibili e velenosi nel tabellone interattivo in ingresso. Al piano di sopra c'è una grande sala con la stagionalità rappresentata in ricostruzioni di ambienti del sottobosco e una serie di zone col bosco e gli animali che lo popolano a grandezza naturale. Ci sono infine alcune sale coi minerali e per finire la sala coi modellini di costruzioni/abitazioni tipiche austriache.
La zona di parcheggio gratuita è poco distante dall'ingresso del museo e si trova prima della salita che conduce all'ingresso.
