Mariensteg — Attraction in Wernstein am Inn

The place is very close to Passau in Austria. It has a large parking lot right next to it for free. The bridge is very beautiful and impressive across the River Inn. Der Mariensteg ist eine unsymmetrische Hängeseilbrücke mit einer Länge von 145 Metern, die die Gemeinden Neuburg am Inn und Wernstein am Inn über die Grenze miteinander verbindet. Die Brücke darf nur von Fußgängern und (schiebenden) Radfahrern überquert werden. Sie wurde im Jahr 2006 eingeweiht, ist max. 8 Meter hoch und wiegt insgesamt 80 Tonnen. Von der Brücke hat man einen wunderbaren Blick auf die um 1200 erbaute Burg Wernstein, die sich auf einem Granitfelsen direkt neben dem Inn befindet. Gleich nebenan steht die 17 Meter hohe Mariensäule, die 1646 von Kaiser Ferdinand III. aus Dank für die Rettung der Stadt Wien gegen Ende des Dreißigjährigen Krieges gestiftet und 1667 nach Wernstein am Inn...
