Loved it , nice to see the burning Mountain(Azherbaijani meaning of yanardag). Not to be misunderstood as a mountain which is burning always.Natural flames are seen on the side of the hill which is always burning and the main thing to be noted is that same is burning for more than 100 years in summer, winter, spring and autumn ie even rain and snow also same is live .Simply astonishing to see such a magic .It's hardly half an hour drive from baku.If possible try to get the help of a local guide since some burning flames need not be an eye catching experience for people who don't understand the history or culture of Zoroastrians and may not feel good since there is nothing else to see there .A museum and a cafe with beer parlour is only there .Horse riding is also on the side of hills. Nice to see the scenic beauty of the place from top of the hill.Science behind the same as per my understanding is that flames are because of the natural gas below the surface and as we all know Azherbaijan is rich in refined oil and flames may be due to the flammable gases below the surface .Anyway nice to see and don't know for how long same...
Read moreYanar Dag, the 'mountain on fire,' is a truly unique and awe-inspiring experience. Visiting with my family on Monday was both thrilling and educational. Witnessing the eternal flames dancing on the hillside left us in wonder. Explaining the scientific phenomenon of fire emerging from the earth due to a mix of sulfur, methane, and gas to my kids was a moment of discovery that left them shocked and amazed—a thrill they had never expected! The historic connections to the Atashgah temple added an enriching layer of learning, with the visual museum offering an incredible insight into Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, and the mysticism of this natural wonder. The children's park was a delightful addition, making it a perfect family retreat. Unfortunately, due to the rainy weather, access to the panoramic viewpoint was closed for safety, but it didn’t take away from the overall charm of the visit. Yanar Dag is a must-visit destination that combines nature, history, and adventure in one...
Read moreNatural phenomenon is found 25 kilometres from Baku, in a place known as Yanardag located in the village of Mahammadli. The natural gas that seeps onto the surface gives this mountain (whose name translates as ‘burning mountain’) its famous ‘burning’ look. In order to protect Yanardag and attract tourists here, this area was declared a historical, cultural and natural reserve in 2007. Today Yanardagh reserve is a favourite destination for tourists visiting the country. The mountain appears to be covered in tongues of flame from its foot to its peak, resembling red tulips. At first, such an unusual sight may give a strange impression, but this feeling turns into fascination upon watching the fire majestically seep out of the...
