Shahbulag Castle — Attraction in Karabakh

This is one of three sights typically recommended to travelers in Artsakh, along with Gandzasar and Dadivank. Of the three, this was the least interesting -- at least visually. The castle itself looks generic from the outside, with no unique features to distinguish it from other castles. Inside it's possible to walk along the upper level. The renovations carried out have been extensive, making more of the castle modern construction than ancient. The museum is really the highlight of the visit, for those seeking a more intellectual experience than a photographic one.
