The lighthouse did not disappoint. I loved viewing it from all different angles on Hope Town before taking the boat over to see it up close. I did not realize it was that big. The exterior was undergoing repairs when I visited, the interior is clean and well kept. There’s hand sanitizer at the entrance and a guest book inside that you can sign along with some brochures & maps. The climb to the top is 101 steps and the passage is narrow, it’s only wide enough for one person. You can pass people on the landings. The climb is fairly easy. There is a winding staircase with railings for the majority of the climb with a steep staircase at the top. Crouching through a small porthole gets you to the upper viewing deck. There are windows with great views along the way.

Read moreIf you visit Hope Town take the time to climb up the Elbow Reef Lighthouse. It is a free and relatively easy climb up the 102 steps. You will be rewarded with a great view of the harbour. You can enjoy the view out the many windows. Crawl through the small steel door to get on the platform for a great view of the harbour. The kerosine vaporizer and exposed gear drive are still visible as are the fresnel lenses that focus light out to 15 miles.
