Sapphire Blue Hole was beautiful. The water was refreshing. Nobody was there when we went, so we had the entire place to ourselves. The only issue is that getting out is not for the weak and requires upper body strength. Luckily, there are two ropes and a rope ladder to help with the process. They say you have to jump in to get in, but I climbed down, which took some maneuvering between the ropes, ladder, and grabbing onto whatever rocks I could grab onto or put my foot on. I wanted to see with goggles how deep it was before jumping. It was so deep that I couldn't touch the bottom when I attempted to swim down to the bottom. The water is clear enough to see the rocks at the bottom, which makes it appear shallow, but it is definitely deep. I jumped a few times and enjoyed it. If you go, water shoes and bug spray are both a must. You will have to drive off the main road onto a rocky road. It looks barely drivable at first, but once you make it past the rocky entrance of the road, the rest of the path is easily drivable and you will have a place right next to Sapphire Blue Hole to park. An SUV would be the preferred vehicle to have when driving up the road, just because the beginning of the...
Read moreWhat an amazing natural feature of Eleuthra island. The water is absolutely sapphire blue, crystal clear, a thrill to jump into, refreshing to swim in, and with stunning rock formations surrounding you. However, like other reviews mention, climbing out could be a major issue for some people. Secure footwear (back strapped sandals, aqua socks, etc.) is HIGHLY recommended. There is a climbing rope with knots and a rope ladder dangling against the sharp, scalloped rock wall. There were also tiny crabs along the wall and along the rope and ladder, so it could intimidate some from even starting the climb. The ladder hangs against the sharp rock, so it was easier to climb the rope while walking up the wall. It was a wonderful experience and I'd do it again and again. Wish I took the time to snorkel a bit! We decided to not let my 8 yr old daughter jump in due to the climb out, although I was very close to allowing it. If your kid is strong and adventurous enough, it shouldn't be a problem, but I definitely recommend an adult be down there with them to make sure all is good. At least...
Read moreCrystal clear ocean swimming water in rock hole. Crabs and small fish present on the rocks and in the water. Entrance is a wooden jumping platform, at least 10 feet above the water. Exit is a precarious rope ladder with slippery wooden rungs set far apart (difficult for anyone who is shorter) ending to a rope with knots up to another wooden platform or the prospect of maneuvering yourself to a worn rock ledge to the right of the ropes to climb the rest of the way up, using tree roots as handrails. It will be difficult for all but the most physically capable. Visited on a weekday in the late afternoon, and had the hole to myself. 3 couples in cars visited, but did not get out; might be popular "parking" spot in the evenings. Limited parking on gravel. No restroom or any other facilities available. Recommend to bring along own water to drink, bug spray, waterproof camera, swim shoes with good traction, and a personal...
