Chandimura Temple, Lalmai, Comilla
Chandimura Temple, also known as the Lalmai Chandi Temple, is a historic and spiritually significant Hindu temple located atop the scenic Lalmai Hills in Barura Upazila of Comilla District, Bangladesh. This ancient temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali (often referred to as Chandi), and it is one of the oldest temples in the region, attracting pilgrims and visitors from all over the country.
According to historical records, the temple dates back to the 7th century and was believed to have been established by Rani Probhaboti, the wife of King Devkharag, a Buddhist monarch. Nearby, there is also a Shiva temple, indicating the presence of multiple deities worshipped on the same site.
The templeâs architecture reflects classical Hindu design, including a sanctum (garbhagriha), a tall tower-like shikhara, and a prayer hall or mandapa. Over the centuries, the temple has undergone several renovations, most notably during the 17th century and again in the 1970s, helping to preserve its structure and cultural significance.
Chandimura Temple is not only a place of worship but also a destination of historical and natural beauty. The location on the Lalmai Hills provides a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. Visitors often climb the temple stairs not just for religious purposes, but also to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and scenic beauty.
Today, Chandimura Temple continues to be a symbol of cultural heritage and religious harmony in Bangladesh. It serves as a reminder of the regionâs rich past and its ongoing spiritual traditions, drawing both devotees and...

Lalmai Chandi Mandir or Chandimura Mandir is an ancient Hindu temple located on the top of Lalmai hill in Comilla city of Bangladesh. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali. Nearby is a temple dedicated to Maheshwar Shiva. When Goddess Chandi was fighting with two demons named Shambha Nisambha, several demons fled to this place surrounded by forest. The goddess then kills the demons here. As a result of the body heat of the goddess, the color of the soil of the hill turns red. As a result, the name of this hill is Lalmai hill.
When Hanuman was going to put Gandhamadan mountain back in its place. When he saw the shape of the sea as he passed over the Lamlam Sea near Comilla, he became distracted and a small part of the mountain fell on the place of Lalmai hill. As a result, Lalmai hills are formed. At the bottom of the hill there is a river Lamlam. It is called Lamlam Sea.
Maharaja Devakharag built this temple and a Shiva temple at the behest of his queen Prabhavati. She herself was a Buddhist and her queen was a Hindu. Even though he was a Buddhist himself, he used to worship mother Chandi. Over time, the two temples were lost. The temple was rebuilt by the second goddess, the niece of Tripura Prince Champak Roy Dewan. He dug a dighi to the south-east of the hill. Whose name is Dutiyar Dighi. Srimat Atmananda Giri Maharaj, who was in charge of the temple in 1972 after the war of liberation, can know about the two temples in his dream. He rescued and repaired the...
