Jaintapur is famous for the ruins of the megalith (huge stone pattern of prehistoric times). Despite its charm, the palace's ruins are not well-maintained by the Archaeological Department. This once-majestic edifice is in a degraded state due to overgrown vegetation and improper preservation efforts. Historians believe that in ancient times the present Jaintapur plain was under water which was part of a vast aquatic region. Perhaps it was because of this great procession of water that the region was isolated from the mainland of Sylhet and gained the glory of being independent for a long time.
