St. Martin is a small island in the south eastern part of Bangladesh. This is the southern most point of Bangladesh. It is in the north east part of Bay of Bengal. This island is almost flat and is 3.6 meter above sea level and about 8 kilometer long. St. Martin is the only coral island in Bangladesh. Exotic view of the sea, simple life style of the natives, quiet, peaceful and full of enthusiasm made this island best tourist island of Bangladesh.

St.Martin is a popular tourist destination in Bangladesh for both local and foreign travelers in Bangladesh. It is like a pearl dot in the Bay of Bengal. It is situated at the entrance of Bangladesh-Myanmar border river Naaf. The old name of this island is "Narikel Jinjira" means coconut garden. In 1717 christian priest father Martin came in this island and since then it has been named as Saint Martin's island.

Don't see only...feel the island

this island is much for feeling inside than seeing. You see the bay, the beach, coconut trees, birds, hear the sound of the waves like a melody , all of these you don't just see or hear, you feel them inside as well. Such a strong appeal is there in St.Martin's island.

If you enjoy staying in cottages in an island, don't miss to stay here also in St.Marins coz there are some wonderful resorts here. Real rural cottages are nicely decorated in the resorts. So, you will also be able to feel the ancient surroundings where there is no electricity at late night, get water only from coconut, moon lit bright night..its all thrill.

Every resort is along the beach. So, beach is where you actually stay. Most famous resorts among those are Shimana Periey, Nil Digonte etc. There are some hotels also here to stay such as Prashad Paradise, Blue Marine, Abakash parjatan motel etc.

Things to do

You can go around this island by motor boats. It is only about 8 km long and about 1000 meter to 1500 meter wide. Sun bathing is so enjoyable here as this island is so quiet. There are few facilities here for scuba diving and snorkeling.

Most attractive sight in St.Martin is Cherra dwip (detached island). This is a tiny part of this island which becomes detached from the main island during high tide. Her the water is so blue and quiet. Life under water is so nice...

St Martin’s Island a small island in the northeast of the bay of bengal, about 9 km south of the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf peninsular tip and forming the southernmost part of Bangladesh. It is about 8 km west of the northwest coast of Myanmar at the mouth of the river naf. The island lies between 92°18' and 92°21'E longitudes and 20°34' and 20°39'N latitudes. The local people call it Narikel Jinjira. It is almost flat and is 3.6m above the mean sea level. The 9.66 km wide channel between the mainland and the island is much shallower than the open sea southwest of the island. There are reefs from 10-15 km to the west-northwest.The island is 7.315 km long and is aligned NNW and SSE. Geographically, it is divided into three parts. The northern part is called Narikel Jinjira or Uttarpara and is 2,134m long and 1,402m wide. The southern part is known as Dakshinpara, which is 1,929m long, with a narrow tail of 1,890m towards the southeast, and a maximum width of 975m. A narrow central belt or Maddhyapara connects the two parts. The length and the width of this belt are about 1,524m and 518m respectively and the narrowest collar is known as Golachipa. In addition to the main island there are a number of tiny islets ranging from 100 to 500 sq m which are locally known as Chheradia or Siradia which means separated island.

There is a shallow lagoon in the middle of Uttarpara and it is connected to the sea during high tide by a narrow channel on the western coast. The topsoil of Uttarpara consists of alluvial sands mixed with shells of molluscs. There are two small dead lagoons and a stretch of marshy land in Dakshinpara. Fish landing sites, bazars and schools are present only in Uttarpara. (copied from...

Saint Martin's Island is one of the popular places in Bangladesh. If you want to go there, you have to journey by ship, and this experience will stay in your memory for a long time. However, be cautious before booking a resort room because the resort owner may present a positive image, but in reality, it may not be the same, and they may ask for a high price. Another important thing is the food; there are many food hotels, but their food quality, taste, and hygiene may not be good, sometimes leading to food poisoning.

From my experience, I suggest "Euro Bangla Restaurant" as their food quality is better than any other restaurant, even though the prices are similar. The environment is also good. When you reach there, take care of your health and drink as much water as you can. The intense sunlight makes it advisable to bring sunglasses and sunblock cream to protect yourself. For a more enjoyable travel experience, explore the west part of the island; the sea views and sunset are excellent.

Don't miss the fish BBQ, and when doing so, choose fresh fish from the local fish market open after 5:00 pm. Enjoy your travels and keep your surroundings clean. Lastly, when going to Saint Martin's Island by ship, you will see lots of seagulls. They may approach you for food, but don't give them chips or biscuits as it can be harmful to their digestion. Seagulls prefer fish, so if you want to feed them, offer fish. Otherwise, refrain from giving any food. Have...

Don't see only...feel the island this island is much for feeling inside than seeing. Things to do You can go around this island by motor boats. Life under water is so nice to watch here.

Have a nice trip!
