In Manigaon village near Jadukata river in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj district, a Shimul tree garden has been built over an area of more than 100 bighas. On the other side of the river are the Meghalaya hills of India, the magical Maya (Zadu Kata) river in the middle, and on the other side a procession of red flowers, the chirping of birds. In 2002, rich businessman Zainal Abedin, the former chairman of Badaghat Union Parishad, took the initiative to plant shimul trees on his 2,400 square meters of land near Jadukata River in Manigaon village of Sunamganj. He planted about three thousand shimul trees. The shimul trees that grow day by day have now become a shimul garden. Along with the garden, a lemon garden has also been developed. When spring comes, two thousand shimul trees are full of flowers. The flowers of the garden bloom in the light of Fagun. To quench the thirst of the eyes, hundreds of tourists from different parts of the country come every day to see the tiny red Shimul flowers blooming in the huge Shimul garden at the foothills of Tanguar Haor, Meghaloy hills and in the middle of Magical Zadukata river. Read moreIt is a long journey from Sylhet city. Took almost 3 hours to reach the destination. We were lucky enough our driver whom we rented knew an alternate way to reach shimul bagan so we didn't have to use motorbikes or boats. The road is bad, narrow it goes through a village. No good resthouse or restaurant where you can take a break. The shimul bagan is beautiful! You can take amazing pictures if you have a photo expert with you. Per person, ticket is not more than tk20. Children sell shimul mala at tk10/20. There's a merry-go-round which is so much fun! and a few horses that will take you around the whole bagan. The problem is there is no such shed from the sun so please wear sunscreen. There's a restroom for male and female since I didn't use it don't know whether they were clean or not but there's a washroom at least. Only one restaurant inside the bagan sells drinks, chips, chotpot, fuchka. You can spend about 25 to 40 minutes in the shimul bagan, next you can go to Niladri which is a breathtaking place about 40minutes away. One thing I want to mention is those who are coming outside from Sylhet is that shimul flowers bloom only for 3 weeks in February so, please make sure your trip...
