After 15 years of wait, the Jananetri Sheikh Hasina Shishu Park was finally inaugurated yesterday evening at Sylhet city's Alampur area, near the Surma river.

Foreign Minister and Sylhet-1 Parliamentarian AK Abdul Momen inaugurated the park, while Sylhet city mayor Ariful Haque Choudhury and Sylhet-3 MP Habibur Rahman Habib were present at the ceremony.

Unofficially open since September 25 this year, the park has already stirred attention among the city's residents, especially children, with entry fees set at Tk 50.

Originally planned in 2006, the project saw multiple delays, thanks to a dispute over the park's name. Though all the rides were installed by 2017, the wait for its inauguration was prolonged, until the city corporation decided on the current name.

According to the city corporation, it cost around Tk 15 crore for the park's construction while another Tk two crore budget was allocated this fiscal year for upgradation.

I recently visited Shakh Hasina Sishu Park in Alampur Sylhet, located near the BRTC Bus Depot and Alampur Fire Station. The park is situated in a beautiful, traffic-free environment and is primarily designed for children's amusement with government financing. However, my experience was disappointing. They charge a 30 taka entry fee for each, you have to pay individually for each ride but most of the rides were either non-functional or seemed unsafe. The park appeared neglected with overgrown grass, and the absence of refreshment shops was a major downside. Overall, it didn't live up to my...

Sheikh Hasina Shishu Park is a family-friendly green space in Sylhet offering limited amusement rides and basic picnic areas. While it holds promise as a children's recreation spot,

inconsistent maintenance and underused attractions reduce its appeal. If you're visiting with young children and prefer a low-cost open-air outing, it's worth a stop - especially on weekdays. For thrill rides and better upkeep, exploring larger amusement parks or scenic outdoor spots beyond Sylhet may provide...

Nearby Sylhet city it’s located in the bank of Surma River Less rides than expected but kids can enjoy the open areas and rides that are available We found few rides out of order. Monorail is too slow that we found no interest to ride it. There are some lawn areas which could be improved by gardening with seasonal flowers Only soft drinks available inside the park. There could be some food vendors inside or outside the park. Entrance road need to be improved.
