What a lovely place! Uitkerkse Polder committee (Michel & team) have done an amazing job creating this small piece of paradise in the heart of nature, only 20mins from Bruges city centre!
Chose from several different routes: 2km approx round circuit in the top field allows you to explore the wetlands with several different species. Bird watching shelters created to enhance your experience, also benches along the route for a rest or picnic.
8.2km route: the above route plus roads which are perfect for cycling, we ran an extended route of 10km which allowed us to visit farm fields, rivers and paths - a wonderful representation of the natural surroundings.
The centre has plenty of parking; we are a 7m camper and we were able to park lengthways, it also has an information centre with a cafe, although we didn't try any delights. We are shocked at how quiet this place is, perhaps unknown? They also have recycling facilities which is also welcomed.
We enjoyed the tranquil sunset here, whilst observing owls and other birds of prey fly overhead, followed by bats hunting as the night sky appeared. I did get snaffled by mosquitos (as usual) but you are by still water here, so it is expected.
A big thankyou to Michel and the team for the hospitality and friendlyness shown....
